    Hi everyone,

I had been looking for a laptop for a while and saw one of these, one thing lead to another and I ended up getting it. To cut a long story short its a really good laptop. The gesture control and quad core are slightly gimmicky but the performance is fantastic.

Anyway thats the good, unfortunately im having problems with it now and I was hoping you people could help me rather than me having to send it off to Toshiba (I cant really afford to do this as I use the laptop everyday for university work). The two problems I am encountering are:

    1) No matter what I do the touchpad does not seem to want to scroll. For a while it worked great then one day it just broke. Ive tried updating and rolling back drivers nothing seems to work. Should I try completely uninstalling it?

    2) The second problem is that the function buttons along the top don`t seem to be working properly! The actual function button works its just that when I press certain buttons nothing seems to happen.

I really appreciate any help that you can give me with these problems. Thanks a lot for your time.

just wondering, do you mean the Qosmio G50?

    1) I think you should try completely uninstalling the drivers and then reinstalling the newest one. Perhaps use some kind of driver cleaning tool as well

    2) Have these buttons ever worked?

hmm, the F50 has a quad and gesture control? Didn't know that. (can you show me how to get gesture control on it? I just got an F55, and would like to have gesture control too ^_^ )

    1) mm I don't really know of any good driver cleaning tools before either. i've used some a while back, but I don't really remember any of them, sorry. Have you been to the settings page for the touchpad before? Maybe the system turned off scrolling somehow. Options would be under mouse in control panel. There's a tab that says "advanced," and touchpad options should be there.

    2) jw, which buttons seem to not work? Also, do the buttons dim when you press them?

    Just some questions:

For the function buttons, are you pressing the fn button with the function keys to do some things like change the brightness?(When you press the fn key, do you see the functions on the top the screen ?(squares)

What you can do is install the latest updates for the laptop from toshiba website.

You can use the " Date of upload newer than" and you may find bios updates etc...

Also it is recommended to register your product online. You will get emails with new updates. Activating toshiba tempro also notifies you about updates.

As for the touchpad, make sure you dont install synaptics driver if it is Alps hardware or vice versa. Windows update once gave me an option to install synaptics .

At the end if nothing at all works, there can be some defects with the laptop and should be sent back.

ok guys, good news is the touchpad is finally working! You were right A N M C, windows was installing the wrong kind of driver for the touchpad. So thanks a lot for your help.

No luck with the fn keys but ill keep trying. As for the gesture control chronostorm there should be an widget for Windows Sidebar that activates it or you can just search it in the menu. Im not sure if the F55 has it though. To be honest its useless really but its fun to play around with.

You are welcome. Your laptop is not from the US, I think it is from the EU.
What is exactly wrong with the function keys?

    sure, its the F50-10Z.

As for the function buttons, after a few minutes testing I have found that most of them work. The ones that don`t are the "disable touchpad" (ironically! ;) ) and also the one at the end that is two arrows (one going up and one going down).
