So, this is my prob... ATM im only browsing internet pages and typing this and my idle temp of my t6500 c2d proc is around 60c (using HW Monitor) and place when my left palm is is pretty hot for idle and typing i think...... On full load its around 75, as same as graphic chip (ATI 4650 1gb gddr3). When im watching the movies, its the same temp like when im gaming but only with smaller amount of fan RPM... Ambiental temp is around 25c. Max temp for my graphic card was around 80 playing Splinter Cell Conviction... Its 8months old laptop, i have never opened up or cleaning whatsoever...

So my question is, is it worth it to open up laptop and clean it up? Coz if im gonna open it for nothing i would rather not doing that coz its pretty complicated to get to the fan and heatsink...

But interesting fact is that in Speefan, temp of both cores on idle is not higher than 50c? 47c atm...

    Any suggestions?

Idle temps don't particularly matter, so long as they are below 70C. What you really have to watch out for is the load temps - anything above 82C on the CPU and you should start to look for options in cooling, etc. The GPU is a little more flexible - anything above 90C, same applies.

Until you start to see load temperatures above what was said above, don't worry too much about what it is doing. As long as it is below 82C for the CPU, and 90C for the GPU, you're alright.

However, if you feel that you would get better cooling by cleaning out the fans, go ahead. You could see a good drop in temps across the board. Just watch out for warranty - you don't want to void it by pulling it apart too much. I think as far as Toshiba laptops go, taking the top cover off voids warranty, same with GPU and CPU removal.

Other options you could look into are undervolting your processor, or getting a notebook cooler.

I've cleaned it up and temps dropped in idle for 10c and under full load for like 5c maybe little more... one part of my heatsink was dirty as hell... So my proc is idleing in 52 acording to HWMonitor and GPU around 50s....

Anyways I hope I'll only have this laptop for 2-3 months more, than I'll swap it for sager :). And I have like 2 more yrs of "no matter what warranty"

    Tnx for tips :)

Good to see that a clean up fixed it - some laptops get so bad that even a clean out can't fix them... which doesn't really make sense.

    Hi!
I know this thread is pretty old :) but I'm in desperate need for help!
Do you have some kind of manual or a link to a website with instructions on how to clean the fan of the L500?

    Many thanks in advance!
