This laptop looks pretty nice. I am in the market for a soild 14" laptop. I bought the HP DM4, but could not deal with the color, so I sent it back. I was waiting on the Acer Timeline X 4820, but I have heard there are some issues with build quality.
Anyone have any additional info on this laptop? Battery life? Screen resolution?

here's a link to the a660 variations, they should be similar to the m640
16 Inch Notebooks in Canada at Memory Express
do you have any idea if the m640 will be released in canada? Can't find it anywhere and it's not even in toshiba canada's press releases

No clue where it will be released. I am surprised at how little is out there on this laptop, other than the generic info on the website.

Me too. The release seems kinda rushed, and there so many updated models on the site now. Also, the m640/m645 thing is very confusing... I was only able to see the m645 models on the website by clicking on m640. I was looking at the M645-S4055, with the switchable 330m, but the 330m isn't an option when you try to customize it! Maybe they're still still tweaking it, but it shouldn't be advertised if it isn't an option.

I think they are still putting new models up. Stuff was changing while I was looking at things. The 640 looks pretty nice actually

Here is what I have found so far:
I think the m645 is pre configured and the m640 is customizable?
The Best Buy model is $800 online (although it says backordered), it looks like the best overall deal
This laptop is between 5lbs and 6lbs depending on battery 6 cell/12cell
The detailed spec sheet on the toshiba website said it had a 5 hour life on 6 cell and 10 hours with a 12 cell

If the BB price is accurate then it looks like the best deal for a 14 inch laptop especially if it comes iwth the 12 cell battery as it say on the BB site. Also one can get 3% BCB on BB - tho' it may not apply to the m645. A similiarly config'd Envy 14 will be at least $1000 since it starts at 999.

Yeah, I would look into the envy, but I hate the floral pattern on it. I am also looking into the acer timelinex 4820tg, but it is not out yet, and there may be some build quality/heat issues. Just can't find the perfect 14" laptop out there. I am going to try going to best buy over the weekend to see if this laptop is available.

I just picked up this laptop from a local bestbuy. They have it marked in a way that showed it still being in transit, but it was in inventory. Had to pull it out of the warehouse. I really like it. For the money you do get allot!. The battery is larger than I would want, but I understand it stores more power. If I keep the unit I would have to order the 6 cell for general purposes and use the 12 cell for travels. Only thing that I really wanted that it didn't have was a backlit keyboard. Bluetooth would be nice too, but not as important as that is easily added. Otherwise, I really like this unit. I just got it last night so I have allot testing to do.

Awesome... can you test it and let us know how it holds up? Maybe some pics, weight, build quality, screen, keyboard/touch pad, etc...??? Hope it works out well, I plan to swing by BB tomorrow. Was it $800?

I have really enjoyed this unit. The button layout and placement was well done. The overall feel is very solid. No flex in keyboard. Sound is good. Volume could be a little better, but hardly bad. Speed overall is really good. Low to very mild hard drive noise. Most of the time I hardly notice it. Touchpad is acurate and feel is nice. The buttons below touchpad are hard to press. Other laptop builds I noticed with the same case design had different buttons that were easy to press. I have no idea why they chose these buttons. I have had harder. With the battery the unit weighs 8.2 lbs. Without around 6 lbs. Scale had hard time to register the weight under 7. The battery has some heft. The texture in the design is bold with a gun metal color. The dvd burner quickly spins up and is not that noisy. Screen is beautiful. I haven't tested the video camera but will test that soon. Scores 4.5 on Windows 7 index graphic test, but better on everything else. The unit is priced at 800.00 and very reasonable at that price as anything on Toshiba's website with same build was over a 1000.00. I still wish it had a backlit keyboard as I use allot of low light usage, but not a deal breaker as this is an incredible unit. Very well put together with good hardware. I need a 6 cell because the weight of the 12 cell on my legs does bother me. I'm not a fanboy with tech although I love tech I only endorse it if I really like it. This gets a solid thumbs up! :)
