Every once in a while my toshiba M15 will revert to 16 bit color, rebooting usually fixes that, but sometimes stays 32 bit for a long time, then it reverts to 16 bit(640 x 480),the operating system is Windows XP service pack 2. Is this a driver issue or possibly the display adapter?

You could try reinstalling the driver or look for an updated one at the manufacturer's site. Not sure that would help, but it's worth a try.
