my goodness, it seems that there's a lot of other people like me on this forum. I'm going into 1st year university this coming September and am looking for a desktop replacement notebook. I'm currently on a:
Pentium 4 1.6 GHz, 512 PC2100 DDR, 40GB HDD, Geforce2 MX400 64 MB, Windows XP Professional
I'm looking to upgrade to the Toshiba M30-UU9, which is a:
Intel Centrino 1.5 GHz, 512 PC2700 DDR, 80 GB HDD, GeforceGo 5200 64 MB, 15.4" WXGA
I can get one for $2030 CAD, or $1523 USD. Do you think it's worth it for this price? I'm definitely liking the lightweightness (6.3 lbs), large hard drive, and decent gfx. I may not be doing too much gaming at school, but I do need a computer for the other 4 months of the year tooSo I picked this one over the 32MB laptops and the Radeon 9x00 ones.

Yuuup this notebook is the right choice, but with a few downs that you might consider before buying this notebook. First it gets really hot on the bottom (wireless module) and around the touch pad in just a momoent of using. They can reach as high as 35'C. Other than that, this notebook is perfect for your needs. Can I recommend you with the new M30-710? This one cost a hundred more than UU9, but it includes wireless g card, 512Mb Ram in one slot (which means easy to upgrade without alto of expense) and it includes OneNote 2003, but for all those, 20Gig is subtracted from the 80Gig Hardrive in UU9.
By the way, tell us all how you feel about this notebook if you buy it, and better yet, make a review out of it, haven't seen one in here about M30 yet. =) GOOD LUCK -
Yes, I suppose you could recommend the M30-710... but I'm not sure if I'd even consider your recommendation [

The reason, of course, is that I'd take 20 extra gigs of hard drive space over wirelessG and a single memory stick. I would have close to no use for the wirelessG compared to a wireless B network card. Also, I'm pretty sure the UU9 already comes with the microsoft onenote. So, since I'm able to get either the 710 or the UU9 for the same price (within $30 CAD) I'd much rather go for the UU9.
I'd certainly be willing to do a review of it when I buy it. []
Regarding the problem with heating up... is that something I really need to be worried about? I really have no idea.. sorry.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015
