Ok, intermittent problem. The computer powers up. Sometimes it goes through the motions, starts up, loads up windows, but the second you bump, or tap the computer, the fan shuts down, the screen shuts off, the hard drive stops spinning, but the power button/light stays on.
Sometimes when you turn it on, the fan runs for a few seconds, and then stops, same symptoms described above. Either way, the computer is unusable right now.
I checked the ram/swapped it out with known good ram, and that's not the problem. The battery is crap, but when I plug in the power adapter, it shows that it's there, and powering the computer via the two LED's in the front. The plug one is green, the batt one is orange.
Now, as with the first scenario, if it does infact load up, I can sit there staring at windows all day long. Move the mouse via touchpad, and everything will appear perfectly fine until there's a bump, or other movement, then the screen shuts off, fan stops, etc..
I assume there is some sort of short somewhere. I know the power jacks on these have issues, but since the computer stays powered up, and still reads the computer as being plugged in, I don't think the power jack is the issue. I don't want to believe that the motherboard is bad on it, because of such an odd problem, so I'm seeking out other possibilities.
Anyone have any ideas they can throw at me?
Thanks,
Jay
EDIT: upon further diagnosis, I find that if I hold the power cable tight to the left of the computer, it boots, but if I move/hold it to the right, it doesn't. That means there is a good chance that it's related to the jack. Anyone else experience these symptoms with a bad jack?

I had exactly same problem. With my M30
brought it service center, they said motherboard is bad, need to replace.
I didnt replace it as it costs5 00$. I ended up bought Hp V3000 for $700.
but if anyone has idea, i'd like to try -
Well I haven't pulled the computer apart, but I assume the power jack is soldered in, which would make it "non serviceable". If it's attached to the motherboard, they would say you need a new motherboard, even if it's just that cheap jack. I'll drop the 12 bucks and replace it, and see what happens. If it fixes it, I'll let you know.
I would like to hear from some other people before jumping into it though. Just to see if there is anyone with experience fixing this problem. -
Sorry for the double post, but here's an update. I tucked the adapter wire under the laptop, so it's pulling tight on the jack. I've been able to keep the computer on for almost a full day, fully functional. Just using it VERY carefully, as I know a hard enough tap, or bump will shut it off. So I'm almost sure now that it's the power jack.

I replaced the jack, and no go. I secured every part in the laptop that could possibly wiggle and/or short, and it's still cutting out when even the lightest tap hits it.

it seems really bad mobo huh

I have the same computer and have been having the exact problems. My power jack has been having a short in it for some time, but I've managed to keep the computer fairly stationary to keep the power going to it. Finally, the power jack broke and I can no longer get any power going to the laptop. This repair in town will cost anywhere from $150 - $250. I found a place that I can ship it to for repair within 24 hrs of receiving for $125 and this includes shipping and a lifetime warranty. Check out powerjackrepair.net.
For the last year, I've been propping the power cord on something like a medicine bottle, or even taping it down with a band-aid...anything to keep the cord in place where it was charging. This worked for quite some time, until I decided to move the computer. Now the power jack is completely loose. There is nothing there for the plug to plug into. -
My Boss’s 3-Year-old Toshiba M35x Satellite has booting problem. . The Laptop Some times gets booting, some times not. While switch on the laptop that Power button glows (blue in color). When ever he start the laptop some times the display is coming and meny times he was able to login. After the login, the screen goes blank and everything seems to be down. He send the laptop to a Toshiba service center. After the examinations they told that the cpu socket in the motherboard have the problem. One layer of the same is gone. I read some articles from the Internet that the power jack in the board will create the same problem. I try to charge the battery. First it was Orange in color the after an hour it turn in to green, don't think the power jack is the issue. Even if I press some parts of the laptop it suddenly starts. I don't want to believe that the motherboard is bad on it, because of such an odd problem, so I'm seeking out other possibilities. If you have any idea or suggestions, then please help me.
Thanks
