    Hi,

I have been using the Toshiba M40 SF3 for about a month. I always keep the wireless switch on so that everytime when I turn on the notebook it can start to detect the wireless network automatically. However, these two days I have problems in the wireless switch, which when I turn on the notebook (with the wireless switch on) the wireless connection light (orange light) is on but it goes off when the Toshiba screen appears. At windows, it cannot detect any network connection. When I switch it off and switch it on again, the wireless orange light turns back on and I can use wireless connection again. Does anybody know why is it happened (it never happen before) and is there any possible solution to keep the wireless orange light always on? Thank you for your help. :D

I don't know much about that specific issue, but you should start by re-installing the drivers that are on the Toshiba support site. Perhaps someone else has seen something similar though.

I think theres a bios upgrade for the M40 laptops that resolves the Always on issue with the wireless switch but the only thing is that the problem might arise again even with the bios update which happened to me! You might want to take a look at that if you feel safe doing bios updates...

Hi, I've check the toshiba website regarding the bios and I found that my bios is the latest (version 1.30). I've also called the technical support of Toshiba regarding this, and they did not provide me any help but refer me to one of the local technical support. I called their local technical support, and they said if it is a hardware problem, they can fix it without charge; however if it's a software problem, they've got to charge me.

So I wonder is this problem part of the software problem? Or is it a hardware problem?

Hi Alkaholikc, would you please let me know how did that happen to your notebook?

    Thanks

I have a Toshiba Satellite M40 9Cdn) which I purchased in May 2005. I had a similar problem with the wi-fi switch needing toggling after boot-up. I downloaded the BIOS (Windows install version) and it corrected the problem. FYI - I also recently downloaded and installed the latest Intel wireless driver/software, which corrected connectivity problems with my wi-fi. It's been working like a chram ever since.

    The site I used was:

    WOW!
My SF3 has been doing this since I bought it in Aug 05 and I thought it was supposed to ... found it kind of annoying BUT the Bios v2.1.0.7 along with the wireless 9.0.2.31 fixes seemed to have corrected it ...

    thanks for the info bobness

You also might want to check out Intel's site too - they've recently issued new drivers for all Centrino notebooks.

Hi guys, I have the exact same problem that you guys described. Only thing is, I have flashed my bios version to the more recent update (1.70) and installed the most recent drivers for my wireless card and is still not working! I took it to a Toshiba authorized repair shop and I think they have replaced 3 motherboards already.

If the problem still persists, I either:
    1. Might ask Toshiba for a replacement laptop, heck I don't want to be stuck with this problem because it's really annoying
    2. Or go to futureshop, where I could probably get a M70 for replacement since they don't have m40 anymore.

    Hi
I have the same M40 SF3, same problem with the wireless switch. I have flashed the BIOS to the latest a few months back and it had solved the problem, temporarily. Have any of you fixed the problem for good, and how did you do it.

I don't mind toggling the switch, but is it going to degenerate into something more problematic?

    Thanks

    Patrick
