I now have a Toshiba M40 running XP Pro and various other programs.

I dont know why, but when you click Start -> Shutdown and then Shutdown, it takes about 5 minutes for it to actually shut down. It sits there at the desktop, with everything showing for about 5 minutes, and wont let any other programs open, only to all of a sudden begin the shutdown sequence.

Does anyone know why this is?

    Hmm...
How many background programs are you using? Too many background programs can cause long wait times for any computer to start up and shut down slowly. Check out this page on NBR to help you out. Good luck!

Hey thanks, but I found my problem.

A screwed up driver installation. Once it was resolved the shutdown worked perfectly again :p

I had started installing the Omega drivers, and then cancelled halfway through. I then shut down the computer.

I wasnt able to remove the damage, so unfortunately I had to use product recovery, but thats ok, because all my data was backed up.

I hope your problem isnt as serious.
