I bought the M645-S4050 from BB this evening on the way back to Jacksonville. Purchased it at the BB in Daytona on Intl Speedway Blvd. They have or had 6 in stock. They also have the S4049 which has intel hd and 6 cell battery. Overall 800 bucks is a great deal for a laptop with these specs. I figured i should move on this one before the price goes up just in case. I had also considered ordering the Envy 14 this AM but BCB at only 10% (same as my academic discount) and since this toshiba was available with similiar specs for much less i nixed the envy 14. So far very happy with. Comes with a lot crapware on it including the Best Buy Software Installer. Also it has 3g/4g/wimax connectivity. Initially the blue shirt was going tohave to activate the 3g/4g service which was 60 bucks a month if i purchased the m645. But i managed to get it without activation of the mobile broadband. Admittedly it does not have the led KB, all metal build or BT but otherwise has a great feature set. Battery life right now as type on it is 81% (5 hrs 33 min) with 12 cell. I love the pseudo metal finish. The LED light on the touchpad is a nice touch.

Congrads! Like you I have really enjoyed my m645. It's amazing at this price point what you get for the money. I don't know what BB worked with Toshiba, but it seems to favor the customer price wise. Like I have mentioned before in this forum the only thing I would liked to have added to this was the LED Keyboard.

I think the only two options it doesnt have is BT and LED KB. But the LED on the touchpad helps a lot to make up for no led KB. Its only a bit heavier than the HP Envy 14 and only 0.02 inches thicker. And all for a lot less. I asked one of the Blue Shirts. He thinks that this may be a special promotional offer BB and Toshiba are doing for the launch with Toshiba subsidizing a portion of or all of the price.

    FYI:
I weighed the M645 on my postal scale and it weighs 5 pounds 12 oz. Or 5.75 pounds.

Another great feature is that the hot air vents on the right side. The bottom stays cool so keeping on my legs is not uncomfortable at all.

    @bigd,
Are you the person who bought yours at the Houston BB? The one review on BB is from a fellow who bought it at the Houston BB at the Galleria.

Was that 5.75 pounds with the 12cell battery attached?

Also, I know you have a 500gb 7200rpm hard drive, but what brand and model number is the hard drive that came on your Toshiba M645?

Weight is with 12 cell attached.

Drive is a ST950042 which according to google appears to be the number for a Seagate Momentus.

I have been using all day today and its great. I love how cool it stays with the warm air venting to the side. Also I really the 12 cell battery and its elevation since it puts it on an incline. Still have to load Photoshop and other software so i dont know it performs with those yet.

5.75 with the 12 cell? Are we sure thats right? Someone in the other thread said it was almost 8 pounds with the battery, which sounded really really heavy.

All i can tell you is that i weighed on my postal scale which is what i use for ebay sales and it s good up to 10 pounds. I cant imagine my scale is that far off since its been fine for usps packages.

Hmm. Bb.com lists it as 6 pounds which may just be rounded up.

How about using it on your lap or legs with that 12 cell battery... Ok or irritating?

Its not OK or irritating. It is in fact great to use on my lap or on my chest which i did last night lying down. Bottom stays so cool - no heat whatsoever. I like the incline the 12 cell creates. Its the same effect as if i were using on one of those incline laptop cooling platforms minus the fan.

That just can't be right. Even from the factory the unit alone weighs 6 lbs. I have the unit. I double checked my scale for accuracy. I have even seen the scale used at some dr. offices and it says 8lbs and some change. The battery is heavy bottom line. That scales always helps keep me and my wife in check before eating lol.

according to the specs that found on toshiba the weight of the 640 with 6 cell is 5.4 pounds. 6 cell is .8 pounds so thats 5.4-.8 = 4.6 + 1.2 pounds for the 12 cell = 5.8 pounds. I doubt the 500 gig drive will be that much heavier than the 320 so as to make it 8 pounds.

But anyways, i am curious as to why this laptop seems to be going unnoticed. It also does not seem to be selling well at BB. When icalled last week to see how many they had in stock they had six and when i got there they still had six. Well 5 after i got one. Maybe everyone is keen on the envy or timelinex?

Edit: The 12 cell seems to help with cooling. It acts as a little stand to elevate the M645. When on a hard surface or my lap its elevated but on the bed its makes contact with the bed and i noticed the bottom was warm. Not warm on my lap with the 12 cell being a stand.

I would like to believe that these laptops will slowly take off once people realize what a nice package BB put together. These new laptops just became available last week so I hope more people check them out.

One niuce feature the m645 has is a button that functions as a lock button to lock out the touch pad and buttons. A nice touch.

Edit: I reweighed and still get 5 pounds 12 oz.

Edit 2: DVD burner in mine is Sony Optiarc. Bios v1.1

I played with it for a little at my local BB. It wasn't even on display, they had to bring it out from the back as it just arrived. It was pretty sharp looking. I wonder if the plastic will hold up as well as the Samsung Q430 metal though. That is a similarly specced laptop.

I asked the lady about the 6 poun figure on the website and she said yes that's the weight WITH the battery. This seems to fit what the OP said about postal scale. It's still a full pound heavier than the Samsung I mentioned.

I'm curious as to what the owners think about the typing feel of the keys?

The KB is great. 0 flex. I find myslef typing faster on it than on my workstation KB.

The laptop has a very solid feel to it and the plastic seems to be well made. It does not feel like a cheap plastic laptop.
