The Intel wireless card allows you to use Intel's Wireless Display tech. That's the only one I know of.

The model he has is the m645-s4055, same as the one I have, it doesn't come with the intel 6250. It comes with a broadcom wireless N. You must be looking at one of the other models either the m645-s4049 or m645-s4050.

Just a side note.....If anyone wants to upgrade their WIFI card in the M645-S4055 to an Intel card wuch as the Intel Centrino 6250...YOU WILL LOOSE THE BLUETOOTH, reason being the broadcom card that comes stock with the M645-S4055 is a WIFI/BT combo card.

Do any of you guys know enough about the battery drain of the processors to hazard a guess what run times might be with the I3 processor and the 61Wh 6 cell that is offered on these notebooks?

Can anyone comment on the fan noise of the M645-S4050? I've read it could be quite noisy/persistent.

I just recently purchased the M645-S4050 for $699 at Best Buy. I couldn't resist for that price and 18 months no interest financing. I'll report back once it ships to store.

Now $719 at Best Buy. A good deal on a nice notebook. Wish it had an LED keyboard and Bluetooth but I wasn't willing to pay more than a grand to Toshiba Direct for those two features. I may look into upgrading those components later but for now I am very happy with the notebook as is.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you change your wireless card in order to get Bluetooth you may lose your 4G and WiMAX connectivity depending in what card you get.

But it's very sad about the Backlit Keyboard. Would be awesome.

I believe you are correct on losing 4G. I tether my Blackberry when I am out and about and can't get a Wi-Fi signal so the Bluetooth would be of more use to me than the WiMax.

Just purchased the M645-S4050 and am pleased with it so far. One thing though - the hard drive consistently produces clicking noises (typically pairs of clicks, each pair spread apart by a couple seconds), which are noticeably louder than on previously owned laptops. Anyone else experience this or know if this might indicate faulty equipment?

I noticed that also while setting mine up. Mine doesn't seem to do it so much after a few days with it. Or perhaps I am now accustomed to the machine. Mine has a Seagate drive so I am not too concerned about it. It may be a little louder than the Vaio I replaced but I don't think it is faulty.

Mine does it when it wakes up but not when i am actively using it.

Also a question for m645 owners - what is the best battery life you have managed to get? I get ~7.5 hrs as measure by Battery Bar. Wondering if there any settins that can push that up any more.

I can answer that. I really like the angle of the laptop with the larger battery. I think it helps with cooling - the bottom is never hot and i use it on my lap all the time. As for typing i dont know if the angle helps. But what i love when typing is the keyboard - very easy to use, feels great, no flex. Even tho' its plastic the laptop feels very solid.

Anyone with the 12 cell big battery interested in a brand new in box, stock OEM 6 cell Toshiba battery that comes with the Toshiba M645 as well?

If so, I have a brand spanking new one still in the original Toshiba box that I just received from Toshiba last night. I just purchased my Toshiba M645-S4055 and the first day I opened it and charged the battery the battery wouldn't go above 98% charged. So, i called Toshiba and they sent me out a new battery (the one I am selling)....Well, after I spoke to Toshiba I looked online and figured out I needed to update my Bios and I did and the one that actually came with my laptop now works perfectly.

So, I have no need for the brand new one Toshiba sent me. If interested just shoot me a PM and if you would like a picture include your e-mail address in the PM and I would be happy to send a pic as well.

This is a great upgrade in size if you do not want that big bulky 12 cell on all the time.

I recently bought a Satellite M645-4050 and I changed the option on bios to make a fast boot, then it doesn't show the Toshiba's logo on start up. But now I have to change an option on bios and I can't enter on it. How can I access the bios now and make a normal start up speed?

Can I ask what settings you were using, because that sounds pretty good. For some comparison, I was running with the brightest screen setting while watching a netflix stream - and only got about 1.5 hrs on the 12-cell. Battery bar says my battery wear is 23.9% and I was wondering if that could indicate a defect?

Yes, I am interested in real life battery life with the 12-cell and TOSHIBA eco power plan enabled; wifi on. Every time I'm poised to order the Best Buy model I hesitate because of stories about poor battery life.

    Hello guys,

Does M645 come with dual hard drives or a single one?.. This baby gunna be super fast machine if it does have multiple hard disks. I like to have OCZ Vertex SSD or Inel on both drives... Awww, BTW, Did anybody try SSD on it?

    Thanks you in advance

Do you mean that the hard drive is swappable. I have owned Toshiba E105 for almost 2 years, but it was disappointed.. guess what! there was no holes to disassemble the hard drives. I am still hesitant if i could swap the hard drive by SSD for M645..

    Any Good?

Question for those of you with the Nvidia 310m graphics card. I know the gamers say it is low end and basically worthless. Does it have any redeeming Qualities when it comes to viewing photos or watching video? Does it have any impact whatsoever on video, streaming or DVD/Blu-ray fed through the HDMI port. Just curious what your thoughts are on the card. Worth the 100 dollar upgrade? Thanks.

Just got my Toshiba M645-S4055 less than a month ago (was the M645 highest model) and then Toshiba just released a slightly even higher version which is the Toshiba M645-S4080..... http://laptops.toshiba.com/laptops/satellite/M640/M645-S4080

Thats technology, so fast with updates hehe

But, its ok. I got one heck of a deal on my Toshiba M645-S4055. I got it brand new from J&R when they had a one week only sale for $919 shipped :) I added a little more to the machine by adding the Intel Wifi/WiMax 6250 card (to add Intel Wireless Display to the laptop, which it did) and added the Hitachi 7k500 500GB 7200rpm to my laptop.

So, even though it kicks me that i just got this and its already being replaced. I am still pleased with my M645-S4055. It seems the only improvements were adding a 640GB 500rpm hard drive and 6gb of ram.

Not a replacement - just a different model.

Same as S4055 but with 6GB memory & 640GB hard drive. Everything else is the same.

Oh Yes! and $50 more in price.

I am confused with that as well. Some websites states Nvidia 330m (including Toshiba's website) while some others state Nvidia 420m. Not sure which one it really is.

Also, it is true the S4080 has the I5-460m, while the S4055 has the I5-450m
The S4080 also has 6gb of ram and 640gb of memory.

But, the S4080 obviously is at full retail now. While the S4055 I got on sale for $919.

Obviously, I want the latest and greatest but I dont think there is a big difference between the I5-450m and I5-460m. The 6GB of ram would of been nice. The 640gb 5400rpm of hard drive I still most likely would of replaced with the Hitachi 7k500 that I bought.

The big thing up in the air is what Nvidia card actually comes with it.

Well, this model Toshiba Satellite M645-S4080 comes with NVIDIA 420, but what i didn't get so far, does it come w/ a Blu-Ray Read/Write or not!! cause Amazon website recites that its blue-ray is enabled, whereas newegg and Toshiba websites say it doesnt have... im really confused :(

Well, that is not actually for certain. The majority of the websites including Toshibas website states it has the Nvidia 330m. I think I read at only one location that stated Blu-ray. But, I am pretty sure it doesnt because all other sites don't mention it.

There are a couple of things we know for sure:

    1) I5-460m instead of I5-450m
    2) 640gb 500rpm hard drive instead of 500gb 5400rpm hard drive
    3) 6gb of ram instead of 4gb of ram.

Is there much difference between the 310m and 330m? Would 6Gb. of ram be noticeable over 4Gb.?

Hey, I'm actually looking into the M645-S4080. Good price with great specs. However, I'm totally new to the laptop realm, and I can't say I'm a fan of this resolution that is now standard (1366x768)

So I've posted this before but what tool can i use to see what video card is being used? Was playing some games today and everything seemed super laggy (source games) and I dont think the gt310 card turned on

edit: also turning on my wifi to create my own hotspot works, but when people connect they are unable to connect to the internet

This thread has a link to where the Nvidia test tool can be downloaded.

Is your internet connection shared? If not that could be why they could not connect to it.

My Battery wear is 1.8%. When i first got it the wear i think was around 10%and it has progessively decreased as i have used and recharged the laptop. I get 7 to 7.5 hrs on Battery Bar with WiFi on, internet, Office type usage. Have not seen what life is when watching a movie nonstop on battery. I found that watt usage was actually a little higher with the Eco utility on. I run in Balanced mode with screen brightness towards the lower end. With WiFi, web, email i average about 15-16 watts so with a battery that has a capacity of 95500 mWh i should get about 6.5 hrs and actually do a little better. All in all i think it is a great laptop for the money. The other laptop i had considered was the Envy but the battery life is nowhere near the 7 hrs they originally stated. I dont game on this laptop since i have a workstation and really the Intel HD video is fine for most video.

While the laptop screen is limited to that resolution, I believe the HDMI out is capable of delivering a higher one (up to 2560 x 1600, I think) when connected to an HDTV.

Because I am typing this reply on my M645-S4080 that was delivered from Amazon just a few hours ago. The pics on there show a tray load drive, it is actually a slot load CD/DVD drive. i5-460M, 6GB RAM is correct. Hard drive is a Toshiba 640GB.

Alright thank you for the latest.

I have the M645-S4055. That would of been a downer for me if the M645-S4080 did come with the Nvidia 420m. Though, I must say it is quite odd that a lot of websites are stating the Nvidia 420m as the graphics card for the M645-S4080.

The only real "upgrades" I see are not huge differences from my M645-S4055. The I5-460m is not much more power than the I5-450m, the Toshiba 640GB hard drive is more hard drive space then I have but it is a 5400rpm,and I upgraded to the Hitachi 7k500 500GB 7200rpm hard drive which is supposed to be one of the faster hard drives around.

The big difference I see atleast for myself is the 6gb you have vs the 4gb I have. Does it make that much of a difference? I am not sure. But, out of everything that is the upgrade that you have that I wish mine had.

    Two more questions.

    1) I read on only one website that yours comes with a blu-ray drive. Does it? Or does it come with the same slot loading cd/dvd drive that I have?

    2) In the specifications of the M645-S4080 it shows a starting weight of 5.4lbs vs the specs of the M645-S4055 I have which have a weight spec starting at 6.0lbs. Have you ever saw a M645-S4055? If so, does the two laptops look any different does the M645-S4080 feel lighter than the M645-S4055?

Yeah, not much of an upgrade. I doubt I would ever notice any difference between the 450 and 460 processors. I will probably eventually swap in a 7200rpm drive and use the 640GB as an external. Honestly I don't know that the 6GB of RAM will be noticeable over 4GB.

No Blu-ray. Same slot load drive you have. I knew that when I ordered thanks to a review on Amazon.

The Nvidia 330M is a little bit of a let down. I was hoping for the GT 420. However, considering I have never had a system with a discrete video card and I am not a gamer the 330M will probably be sufficient for my needs. I don't think I am going to return because of it. I really like the notebook. The only other notebook that I was really looking at was the Lenovo Y460 with the Radeon 5650 and Blu-ray. I really didn't find a lot of reviews on them and I like Toshiba products overall so I think I will stick with this one.

I am really very keen to order the M645-S4050 online but have read some negative feedback about the wifi issues. Are any of you owners of this laptop facing any problems with wifi disconnections or any other wifi related issues. Any feedback is appreciated.

I just got mine this afternoon but I have been on it pretty much since getting it set up and have had no issues with the WiFi.

@SAHIL_M I just received the M645-4050 from Best Buy online. I haven't had any problems with my wifi connection and I spend a lot of time online.

My one complaint is the stuttering the hdd makes at the slightest movement during music playback. I turned of the notification that would pop-up at the same time but I'm unsure how to fix the actual stuttering.

If you want to disable HDD protection you can do so under "Toshiba HDD Protection" in the control panel. I believe that is the only way to stop the stuttering that you speak of.

"Bake" since you have the newest M645-S4080. Have you had a chance to do the "Windows Experience Index?" If so, can you post your results?
