    Hello all,

This is my very first post on here (Greetings are in order), and it's on a rather frustrating note. I got a Toshiba NB 100 netbook as a Christmas present, and I've just opened it up, ready to start surfing the net and showing off to my friends. However, upon booting it up for the first time, it's been loading software, or so it claims, for in excess of two hours. It's a grey screen with the display:

Preparing your system. This Might take a few minutes (ha!). The system may restart automatically. Please Wait.

Now, 120 of these "few minutes" later, nothing. I've had my fair share of bad experiences with Christmas present computers, but I was wondering if anyone else a) has this particular Toshiba, and b) had a similar experience. If it's normal to have it run for two+ hours, so be it, but I doubt it.

Any help you may have would be greatly appreciated!

Antonio, I am having the same problem with the brand new Toshiba Satellite A300 I purchased today at the post xmas sales! That screen has been up now for over 2 hours with that same msg- I don't think it's changing.
Any advice from anyone would be appreciated - customer support is currently closed in Australia (naturally...)

    FWIW,

I've had two new factory sealed L300 series in the past two months. I don't remember any prolonged start-up issues. I do vaguely remember at least one of them giving me the same message as Antonio described, but the time period was so brief I have no real recollection of it due to it being nothing particularly memorable. Perhaps several minutes at the very most?

    Like I said, FWIW.

It *MAY* be normal I have a Qosmio F55 and everytime I restore it back to default settings with the recovery disks after the last disk, I get the same message:

Preparing your system. This Might take a few minutes. The system may restart automatically. Please Wait.

It takes about 1 1/2 hours loading all the drivers and bloatware. Since the NB 100 has a slower processor it may take a while longer doing this same process. Hope this helps. God Bless :)

I have the NB100, I bought the ubuntu version and have since installed XP. My first switch on took about 5 minutes.

Never had a problem with it since then either.

Thanks for this thread. All your inputs are really helpful for me too.

I just bought one NB100 today, and I was making 2 users accounts to start with, and it took me about 30 minutes to get over the first "Preparing your system..." message.

Then the machine restarted as it said, and I log on again to see the "Preparing your system" message for the second time. This time it only took 5 minutes or so. Another restart, login to an account, and I am able to view the XP desktop.

I went through the same as well. It took 45 minutes before the Toshiba NB100 was ready.
