I purchased a Toshibha Net Book. With in 3 weeks I received a notice for updation through the Toshibha Bulletin Board. I updated and tried to reboot as per instruction and there goes my netbook. Screen is complete blank and nothing works. I send the netbook to Service center and got repaired under warranty. They told the mother board had failed. But why?????????????? They are not telling the reason for failure. I send many mails and there is no reply. Are we to spend for transportation for no mistake of us just because we happened to purchase the Toshibha Netbook? Can any body give me the probable reasons for the failure.

May have been a bad BIOS flash from the update that bricked your motherboard. If Toshiba pushes BIOS updates that is

hardware failures happen either very early in a computers life or very late. it could have just been bad timing that it happened after the updates. they may not know what caused the failure. when they receive a laptop they test the parts and if they are not working they replace them. that is it.
toshiba makes it pretty clear about their bios updates only being done if it fixes the exact problem the user is having and are clearly marked when an update notice is sent.
i dont know where you are sending any mail (guessing email) since toshiba has no email address for customers.

If the notification was from Toshiba Service Station it was probably a bios update that caused it as aznguyphan stated. The Toshiba Repair Centers seem to replace the motherboard rather than reflash the bios chip for some reason. I advise uninstalling Service Station altogether as it tends to cause more problems than it solves. Go to Toshiba Support - Homepage and click on the Sign Up For Updates link. Now fill in the model number of the system or systems that you want to keep track of and you will receive an e-mail whenever there is an update posted for that model. The service station only alerts you to Critical updates while the Sign Up For Updates will alert you to ALL updates which is much more useful. If you do get a notification about a Bios update make sure you use the Create CD option to flash from as it is a LOT more reliable than doing so from within windows and only do so if the bios update fixes a problem you are actually having.
