I am moving to the US for half year, and need to replace my PC and laptop with an all-round laptop. So far the P105 is on top of my list. Hopefully someone can answer the following questions:

    1. Is the build quality decent?

    2. How hard is it to dis-assemble the system and reach the following components:
    CPU (hoping for merom later)
RAM (gonna get 2x1GB RAM off the bat)
Hard Drive (Replace with a 7200 RPM, and re-use the 160gb in an external exclosure)

    3. Extreme battery time: lowest brightness, no wireless, no swap file on HD, only using word type programs.

    4. Overclocking the 7900GS

    5. Weight including battery. Is it really 7.1 lbs, or is that without the battery?

    Thank you and cheers :)

one thing that i know about most Toshiba's is there build quality is not all that good, and there costomer service is even worse. 1 year ago i owned a toshiba and a throw it in the dumpster(waste of money i know) because they refused to fix the computer even when it was still in warrenty and it was purchased brand new, it was only 5 months old!!! :( .

as for battery life i have know idea, if you told me what pocesser is in it that would help.

most laptops are fairly east to replace ram on. i would look at below and see what you think of this computer, which alread has 2gb ram, i think it is a 5400 rpm HDD, but not to many computer have a 7200rpm. i am sure that you could also replace it if it is a big deal

    good luck

I have a P100 (about the same as the P105 but different gfx card)

    1) I got my P100 on 4/21/6 and havent had any problems yet. The build quality was actually better than I thought it would be.

    2) Replacing the hd is pretty easy. Take 2 screws out and remove the cover. After taking that off you will see a inner bracket holding in the notebook. I never removed my hd - just the outer cover - but you can see from the pics below that the bracket should be easily removed. (click pics to enlarge)

Ram is also easy to replace but I don't know about the cpu.

    3) I got the 6 cell 4000 mAh battery because I don't use the battery much. I would surely get the upgraded battery if you plan on going on battery for a long time.

    4) cant say

    5) for a 17" notebook I dont think they are very heavy at all. I put mine in a backpack and take it to work on my motorbike and it works fine. I never weighed it though.

I got the 7200rpm 100 gig hd in mine and if I had to do it over again I would of gotten the 5400 rpm drive. Its cheaper and not nearly as loud. Battery life would also be better. 5400rpm notebook drives are actually pretty quick.
