Hello - I just bought a Toshiba P205-S7469, and I'm trying to remove Vista and replace it with XP - When I try to boot with the xp installation disk, I get a message saying "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer".

Can anyone point me to a SATI driver that I can use to slipstream onto my xp installation disk?

    Thanks!

If you get a newer copy of XP with SP2 built in. It won't matter, it will blow right through the install.

Thanks - I got my older xp installer cd past the "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer", and xp was installed on my p205-s7469. I found the SATA driver here:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Professional&lang=eng

and the file name of the driver is "f6flpy32.zip"

I extracted the driver from the floppy image using "WinImage" - then slipstreamed the extracted driver onto my xp installer using "nLite". Instructions for extracting the driver and slipstreaming can be found here:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...d-disk-drives-during-windows-xp-installation/

One more thing: when you are slipstreaming using nLite, and you choose your SATA driver .inf file, a window pops up titled "Storage Device Texmode Driver", and you have to choose from a liist of several drivers. I chose the two that were for "ich8m" - and that works on my Toshiba p205-s7469

I joined this forum just to say thank you for posting this. I haven't tried any of it yet but this is a much better path than I had before I saw your thread. My brother is about to graduate basic training for the Army. He wanted me to buy him a new laptop and put XP on it. You have made he and I both very happy with your info.

I think my Xp has SP2 and it didn't find the hard drive both times I tried it. I'll be slipstreaming the drivers now apparently.

Oh, and is XP running well on this machine so far? The bestbuy version of Vista was SLLLOOOWWWW.

XP SP2 didnt' work for me either. I had to slipstream the drivers into XP, as well as KB888111 and my network drivers.

My toshiba sli3 ran Vista very slowly as well, and I just decided to run XP. Took me a couple of days to get ALL of the devices working, but now it's great, and getting almost 7000 3dmarks

Please bear with the newbie for a second. The KB888111 is an audio driver hotfix? I found a couple of threads about it, seems like a non-toshiba specific problem.

Could you elaborate on which devices didn't work in XP at first? Thanks so much for your help with this.

ETA, well, thanks to MountainGoat and his super helpful links I'm looking at a XP desktop now. No internet or correct screen resolution but I'm there. Off to find the graphics drivers and network drivers I guess.

    Thanks again Goat.

Hey Thanks!!!, I followed your link and downloaded nlite and created the XP with slip streamed drivers cd's for both my Toshiba X205 and Sony FZ180E. Before I was trying to do it the old fashion way and could not get it to work, but nlite makes it so anyone can slip stream the drivers on to the XP cd and have a working and bootable cd/dvd in minutes.

basically, without KB888111, my computer only showed "unknown PCI device" in the device manager. You can't install drivers, as it doesn't even recognize what the devices are. I did a search of the device ID in the device manager, and found a link to the KB888111.

After installing the KB888111, XP can then recognize the HD Bus, which holds the sound card and the modem.

Appearantly, the HD Bus is like the SATA drivers, in that they hadn't been invented when XP came out, so XP doesn't come with proper drivers to recognize newer hardware.

This was very difficult to figure out in my case. Google helped me find a thread in a Dell forum, and it turns out it was exactly the same on my Sli3.

Very cool, that needs to be my next step then. That should get me audio and ethernet. Thanks so much y2k. :) After that, I'll need to find out why the display will only run at 1280 by 1024. I installed the latest drivers for the chipset and graphics card (XP sp2 32 drivers of course) but nothing changed at all after I did that. In the middle of all the hub-bub l I also forgot to check for windows updates last night. Doh!

Thanks again y2k and mtngoat. :)

Edited to add - I installed KB888111, the video drivers (only ones that have worked) and the LAN drivers

Still no ethernet controller recognized, still no internet. I feel like I've hit a brick wall. Can anyone help me? I finally got the screen resolution correct (needed to install KB888111 before the chipset and graphics card drivers). It said "found new hardware" for the hd audio bus but I still have a lot of yellow question marks in the device manager.

    "Other devices" unrecognized as follows
Audio device on high definition audio bus
    ethernet controller
    mass storage controller
modem device on HD audio bus
    Multimedia controller
    Network controller

I've googled my butt off and still no answers.

I was ready to give up last night but I'm ready to trudge through this now. Apparently it's not impossible to get XP running correctly on this machine. The more I read, the more I want xp compared to vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am posting this from the laptop with audio and internet now! Modem device and multimedia controller are the only yellow ?'s in DM now and I read that a windows update fixes one of them. The modem is the least of my worries...

Thanks a lot Kimber (great user name BTW, mine's a tactical ultra). I got so caught up in looking for obscure drivers that I fotgot to check the obvious stuff.

I'm actually about to re install xp and start this all over again to make a nice list of what to install in what order so that no one will have to spend 3 days doing it again. I've installed about 3 or 4 things that did nothing so I want to make this xp install as clean as possible.

Thanks a billion times over to those that helped me with this.

Still struggling with the hd-dvd drive.... I've tried installing some of the pertinent apps and drivers from the recovery DVD and now I can see the disc but it won't play for some reason. When I open the Toshiba HD DVD player it says
    "Unable to playback
Another application that may be using the PC's video function may be running"

Oh, and a windows update acheived a recognized multimedia controller.

I tried following the link you provided to Intel's site, but it didn't work. I then did a search, found the filename you listed, but the drivers didn't work for my laptop. How can I found out what driver this particular laptop needs?
Any help will be appreciated as I really need to get XP installed on my P205-S7476!

I have found several flavors of drivers that seem to allow me to install XP. It goes through the whole setup, but when it gets to the part where it tries to actually load XP after the setup, it just reboots and goes to the screen which refers to an improper shutdown. I am unable to get it to boot using any of the options. Thoughts? Please help! :(

For the audio go here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false and download the zip file for xp - the file name is "WDM_R182.zip". Install the driver. After the driver is installed, you will need to manually update the driver. Do this using the device manager. The device on the device manager that needs to be updated is the PCI Device. Restart the computer and you should have audio.

Here's a bit torrent that you can download that has several of the drivers needed for the Toshiba p205-s7469:

    http://www.mininova.org/tor/1015719

(Keep in mind that for the mass storage driver and the audio driver, you will need to use the device manager to manually update the driver after installing it). After installing these drivers, the only devices that you will still need drivers for will be Network Controller and Multimedia Controller. If anyone can tell me how to find drivers for Network Controller and Multimedia Controller, I'd appreciate it! Also, any advice on how to get my hd dvd video drive working on xp! Thanks.

Oh, and is XP running well on this machine so far?>>>>>

XP is running beautifully. The only drivers I still need are for Network Controller and Multimedia Controller, but even so, the computer does everything I want, except for two things: I can't change the brightness of the monitor (doesn't matter because it's at an acceptable brightness), and I can't watch HD DVD movies on XP (as a workaround I have Vista on another partition so I can switch to Vista when I want to watch HD DVD). Everything else is working great - internet, DVD/CD drive, USB ports - all OK. ON Vista I had several problems, including problems with the internet, slowness, and Vista wouldn't work with my internet phone service. When I switched to XP, everything was fixed.

    mountaingoat,
can you put all the drivers that you torrented on rapidshare or something.. since nobody is seeding that torrent.
or where did you get all the drivers, can you share the links?

    hi!!!
I've just created an account in this forum because of mountaingoat and his great post!thanks mountaingoat!
    i have Toshiba satellite P200-14H.
I did everything as you said...but the only problem is that after installing xp and put all drivers, there is still a device in device manager, which needs a driver...
the device is: "PCI Memory Controller"...I want to get rid of it...
the thing is that I cant install the Intel Media Graphics accelarator driver from the intel site you mentioned...It says that my system doesn't have the requirements needed...and i have downloaded the drive from here...
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!
after using the "intel chipset identification utility" it says that I have chipset: Intel GM965 Express Chipset"
I think that's a wrong driver if you look the supported chipsets in release notes...Please someone help me...

Another problem I manage is,with the chicony web camera...drivers installed but when i use it,sometimes the screen gets dark...and never returns to normal....I have to open settings to get back to normal and when i close settings it gets dark again, after a while...

Here's a driver that allows you to see the file system on a hd dvd disk. It won't necessarily let you watch the hd dvd movie, but you can now see the files on the hd dvd disks (and rip the hd dvd movies using AnyDVD or some other ripping software). The file name of the driver is "udf_driver_hddvd_25074A.exe". Here's a torrent containing the driver:

here are ALL the drivers I used to get XP working on my Sli3. The only thing not working for me is HD-DVD. The drive works as a DVDR drive, but won't show up as HDDVD, either as data or using the Toshiba HD-DVD program.

Anybody got the HDDVD working in XP, in a downloadable format?? I don't use bit-torrent

Thanks! It's a little different on mine - I had go to control panel, then display, then choose the settings tab, then advanced, then Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile, then Graphics Properties, then Color correction, then change the Brightness, then apply - thanks for giving me the idea.

y2khardtop - here's the driver for seeing the files on your hd dvd disk (same one as above only in a downloadable format):

actually if you sitll have the recovery disc, a lot of the drivers and utilities there for Vista can also work for XP as well. the HD DVD player driver, for example, works fine on my machine (I am running XP) and it comes with the recovery CD

I'm probably bringing up a posting that's long past it's time. I was just wondering about the video drivers for the x205-sli1. I tried to install the 169.09 off www.laptopvideo2go.com (spell check) but it's saying that it can't find any hardware to requires that install. Now I'm just wondering what drivers I need to get to run the 8600M GT's that I have on this machine.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I figured it out. I just needed the custom INF files for the drivers from laptopvideo2go. Now I'm all set!
