I have no idea if this will come to anything but I am wondering, who out there has a Portege or other Toshiba UP (like a Satellite U200), which model, what you think of it, any issues you have and any general Toshiba UP chat!

I had a Toshiba 4010 which suffered a backlight failure last year. As it wasn't mine I returned it without fixing it, but I've missed it ever since. That led to my buying an M100 which should arrive within the next few days. The M100 is the same chassis as the 4010 but based on an LV Pentium-M instead of an LV PIII. I'm hoping the M100 will have all the advantages of the 4010 with a few less of the annoyances.

    Annoyances:

    The 4010 has no usb 2.0 (1.1)
The Trident Cyberblade IGP is useless
The monitor picked up pressure marks during transit
    512MB max ram
DVD-ROM drive was a bit funny with copied dvds especially in transit

So we'll see how well the M100 cures these.

    The M100 has:

    USB 2.0
    Intel 855IGP 64MB
    2GB max ram

Whether the other two problems will eb the same or not I have yet to find out. I know the monitor has some marks as the 4010 did but I hope they'll be less severe.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has a U200, U300 or pretty much any Portege! Tell us what you think, good, bad etc.
