The R830 looks to be very similar to the R835, which is discussed here.

I would never describe the Intel Sandybridge graphics as weak - it has moved integrated graphics well into the dedicated graphics territory - but the configuration in that review, with 1 x 4GB RAM, doesn't make best use of the potential. Adding another RAM module (even 2GB) will give a significant boost to the graphics performance.

I think he's referring to the low quality lcd screen as opposed to the video card. I just got the r835 from officemax last week and am quite pleased with it especially after replacing the hdd with an ssd and upgrading the ram to 8gb. The display is not that good but nowhere as bad as the t410s i had for a brief month last year
The r835 version is preloaded with too much bloatware so first thing to do is reinstall windows from scratch. Overall its a really nice machine, feels a little plasticky at times though

Maybe consider the Toshiba Tecra (the 14" cousin of the portege). Has an optional upgrade to a 900p screen; supposedly it's a matte screen.

13" is already my upper limit, I wanted to go for 11-13"

    Exactly

I am also interested for the same model. I am worried for some heat sink issues I have seen in some threads for the R835 model. I am not sure if they also apply to R830.

As far as I know, the 835 is the consumer version and the 830 the prosumer/business.

On the German edition of that review there is a comment section.

    Test Toshiba Portege R830-110 Notebook

The moderator says that the heatsink is aluminum.
The fan doesn't blow on the heatsink, rather in the free space.

But in operation warm air comes out of the vent holes, so it works.
They linked some pics in the comments.

OK thanks. I will buy it from The Netherlands and I think it will be the same with the German version.

Have you actually seen the laptop? I only had a look at an R700 and the main issue that bothered me was the keyboard and a little bit the screen. I assume the R700 and the R830 have the same exactly keyboard.
