I originally de-activated this and used windows own power settings, but I will be working from the battery on Friday and I was curious about settings. On activating the full power settings in Toshiba Power Saver I noticed that my screen actually became significantly brighter than it had been under windows own power settings on full power.

Under windows I had around 1 hour and 50 minutes of battery, let's see what power saver can give me once I have fiddled with the settings!

I <3 toshiba's power management software. gives you much finer control over your settings. it's one of the few things that keeps me attached to my old toshiba -- battery life is so critical and without good power management software it's hard to get your full potential.

Once again, Toshiba Power Manager has saved my a$$!

Looking for a utility to turn down/off my fan as my partner is trying to sleep in the same room! Speedfan and NHC were useless but of course, TPM saves the day.

Having said that I BADLY need a pentium-M in here, I need speedstep! This thing heats up with the fan turned down.

Depends, what sort of Celeron-M 1.6 do you have, 380 or 420?

Hi I'm sorry I'm not very good with computers... But I noticed that after installing Vista Ultimate my screen became considerably duller... and I also know that I can increase the brightness but only using Toshiba Power Saver... I downloaded the Value Added Package and the Toshiba power saver utility but I'm unable to make it work.

PLEASE help me... This has been driving me mad for almost 8 months now!
    PLEASE!

Toshiba power saver is awesome. When i work on Toshiba laptops (everyday) I disable all of the other utilities, but I ALWAYS leave the Power Saver on. It allows you to control the power settings much better than any other utility I have seen (from a laptop manufacture).

I downloaded the Value Added package too but I can't find any "Toshiba Power Saver" app anywhere. I only have like 2 options in the Windows power settings called "Cooling method" and "SD Host controller power management". BTW my PC came with Vista Ultimate and the screen doesn't seem too bright either.

Most of the newer Toshibas that have Vista do not have the Power Saver Utility, or if they do its just a small part of the Vista power management that controls the fans and 1 or two other things.

Do you have the Toshiba flash cards utility installed? It is the snazzy looking function key control that appears when you slide your mouse against the top edge of your screen. That program is required for the function keys to function. I think it is part of the Toshiba value added package on the Toshiba website under the tech support for your model.

To increase the screen brightness, hold down the function key, usually the "fn" key at the bottom of your keyboard, and, while holding the function key, press the f6 or f7 keys, or what ever has the little arrow and sun picture on it. one key increases the brightness, and one decreases it.

Ok let me put it this way.

I used the Fn+F6/F7 keys, I used control panel>Power Management>Advanced>Toshiba Power Saver as well as the Windows Power Saver to attempt increasing the brightness when I installed Windows Vista and NONE of them worked.
I even tried using my ATI Catalyst Control Centre to increase the brightness but even that didn't work.

A few months later my computer had a series of viruses and I couldn't locate my Vista DVD so I used the Recovery Disc provided with my laptop to format it and re-install Windows XP. When I did this my screen's brightness increased by almost 40%.

Once again I installed Vista and the brightness is back to looking like it's on power saver mode...

Is there ANYONE who can think up a solution to this?
(Hopefully one that doesn't include uninstalling Vista :D)

Is the Toshiba flash card utility working?
when you press the brightness keys, do you see a little card like thing slide down from the top of the screen, and the slider at the bottom change?

    if not,
search for tcardmain.exe and run it. If that doen't get the card things working, you might have to re download them. I think they are part of the toshiba value added package.

if so, and the brightness dosn't change, then you have got me.

I think there are some brightness options in bios, you might play around with those, though, if it worked in xp, I doubt that is the problem.

Try selecting the "high power" power plan using the windows power settings. (you might have already done this)

The Toshiba settings only control Toshiba specific things such as the cooling, etcetera. I think brightness is controlled by windows.

I really can't give you more specific help, because I deleted windows vista (bleh) and went back to xp. Sorry

This program is not required for function keys to work. I have fresh install of Vista without this crappy soft and functions keys are working nice (A215)

Open Mobility Center (press Windows key + X) and change your brightness.

Yes they seem to work without that program in some cases. I was trying to make it less confusing, and eliminate possibilities.

By the way dead2theworld, make sure you have the Toshiba common modules installed also.
