Hello,
I just hit the screen on my Toshiba Qosmio by accident, and now there are lines running from the top of the screen to the bottom.
It wasn't a lot of force that hit it. The earphones for my iPod where dropped on the computer and then bounced up to hit the screen. I don't know how it could have caused it, but it did.
It appears to have a faint but visible crack in the screen at the top of the lines but I cannot feel it. It's like the crack is on the other side, so I assume there are two layers of glass?
The computer itself still works perfectly when I connect it to an external monitor, so I know it's the screen and not the graphics card.
What should I do? If you press down on the lines a little the outer lines disappear and normal operation is resumed for those lines until you remove your finger.
Based on that, my guess is that it is not the crystals that are damaged, but rather the glass of the screen? Does that sound correct?
How should I proceed?
Thank you for your answers,

Hello, and welcome to the forums.
Firstly, I'd like to say that having a photo or picture of the damage would be great.
Secondly, generally, I would recommend getting a new screen rather than replacing some obscure hard to get hold of part for it. It could be difficult process, what you have in mind, and could even make your problem worse. What you have done sounds like a typical screen break - best thing you can do is just replace the screen.
Now, here is a good site for buying laptop screens. Here is a screen for your model of notebook:
http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/Toshiba/QOSMIO~G30~PQG31C-HD202E/
If this does not correctly fit your model number, then there should be one for your specific model on the site. Even if your model number isn't listed, a screen from a similar model number will most likely work.
