    hello all

just been doing some research on the Qosmio G30 models.

I have come across what seems a good deal.

Qosmio G30/Y01 (Australian Version) can get for $4400 (its the G35-AV650 US Version)

Intel Core Duo T2600 2GHz CPU
    17" 1920 x 1200 Widescreen LCD
GeForce Go 7600 with 256MB RAM
    2 x 512MB RAM
    2 x 100GB Hard Drives
    HD-DVD Drive

but there is also a newer version coming out, dont know the exact model number but ive called it the Z01 as Z is after Y :)

Qosmio G30/Z01 (Australian Version) can get for $5400

T7200 CPU (Bot not confirmed, just a guess)
    17" 1920 x 1200 Widescreen LCD
GeForce Go 7900 with 512MB RAM
    2 x 1024MB RAM
    2 x 160GB Hard Drives
    HD-DVD Drive

Considering both systems and the amount i am willing to pay, i cant help but feel i will be better served in the long run if i go down the path of the Z01 version.

The better CPU, better graphics, more ram, bigger HD, it cant not be a better system but what i want to know, is considering all that will the extra $1000 (Australian) be worth it or will i only get minor increases.

If im going to get alot better performaces from going from a T2500 to a 7600 to a 7900, and going from 1GB to 2GB then i think i will do it, but if its only going to be minor improvements i wonder if its worth it.

The 7900 is the better card if gaming is a priority. I suppose it will depend on what you are doing as whether it is worth the extra cost for the GPU and CPU upgrades. The hard drive and memory can be upgraded.

    a combination of things really.

    1. CAD/3D CAD/Revit work
    2. HD-DVD movies possibly connected to a TV
    3. HDTV again, connected to a TV
    4. Games
    5. General Computing stuff

    thats an awesome price.

i actually had another look at it yesterday and had a play around with WoW on it, it was more than impressive, and WoW is about the limit of the type of games i play.

my gaming consists of WoW, EQ2 whilst i wait for LOTRO to come out, and i reckon this laptop will more than handle that.

And at that price i think its a certain goer for me.

if i can get my shop to match that, its a done deal.

the P100 looks like a decent system as well, and for $2500 would be a goer as well.

Its the resolution that is the deal stopper - 1440 x 900, as a minimum i want 1650 x 1080 (which is my current 20.1 widescreen PC)

    the p100/no2 looks even better.

it has everything im after, and outside of the hd-dvd drive the qosimo has, is probably a better laptop.

thanks for the link to the website :)
