    Hi -

I would appreciate if some one can help me out since Toshiba support ain't good.

I have a Qosmio G35AV600 with XP Media center and been trying to upgrade to Vista Home Premium through the Toshiba Vista Express Upgrade program. I got the DVD and trying to follow the steps listed on Toshiba's site such as run the toshiba vista upgrade advisor. However the upgrade advisor gave an error message on Step 3 where it supposedly should download all the upgrade related files - "there are no files available to download for the specific computer at this time"; I couldn't get past it and Tosh support had not clue.

Then I started to upgrade as per this document -
TOshiba Windows Vista Upgrade procedure for Qosmio G 35

Here are the steps from there -
    1. Using Windows Explorer, create a new folder named BIOS under the root directory of the computer’s hard disk drive – ordinarily identified as drive “(C :)”
    2. Create another folder named Vista Downloads – also under the hard disk drive’s root directory.
    3. If a RAID driver is listed in the table above, create a third folder named RAID driver – also under the hard disk drive’s root directory.
    4. Browse to http://vistaDL.toshiba.com
    5. Select your computer model from the lists of Product, Family and Model, and click the Go button.
A list of software components and BIOS updates will be displayed.
    6. Download the latest Vista-compatible BIOS for your computer – to the new BIOS folder.
    7. If a RAID driver is listed in the table above, download it to the new RAID driver folder.
    8. Right-click the .zip file for the RAID driver, and then click Extract All. The Extraction Wizard will start. Follow its prompts to unzip and save the driver into the same RAID driver folder.
    9. Download the Toshiba-supplied software components in the table above, one at a time, and save them to the Vista Downloads folder, created above.

I have the Windows Vista Home Preminm Upgrade Pakage. When I start the insallation process, the setup asks for Toshiba Raid Driver. So I click in Load Driver button and choose the folder where the driver is in, as said on the guide, but the setup says that there is no driver found for this drive. I have also saved the driver on a USB drive but of no avail.

What is the reason and what is the solution?
    Please help!

    Hey Qosmioguy,

I'm now having the same problem you described, when attempting to install Vista on my G35-AV600. Did you find a solution to the problem?

    Many thanks.

I had the same problem. First I hadn't unzipped the files. It's easiest to go directly to the folder that you downloaded it to and right click on the file. If you have winzip or winrar loaded (which every one should) you'll have an option to "extract here". Choose that and then once the Vista install ask you for the drivers "Browse" over to that folder and hit OK. Another mistake I made was downloading the Vista RAID drivers. This makes sense but it's wrong. You still have to work with the XP RAID drivers. It did find it right wasy as soon as I used the XP drivers but I still had other issues with Vista install. I have not been able to uninstall my "Bluetooth Stack" program. I get an "error 1327. invalid drive f:\. Vista will not go any further untill I unistall it. Maybe this is a sign..hmm

So it's been many months since I tried to upgrade to Vista. My G35-650. Still does what it needs and still plays my games (not that I'm playing any recent games;BF2 and Oblivion are still good enogh for me). So this threa wa dead when I first wrote to it but just wanted to check if anyone had got the upgrade to work? With the end of XP coming at the end of this month I either have to get Vista on here or get a new laptop. I know I don't have to just because Microsoft announced that XP will not be shipping and support will shift fully to Vista but maybe now Toshiba will support the Vista transition better. If I do get Vista on, I know I'll loose my TV capture card but I never have used it and with 4Gigs of ram it should handle Vista OK. I'll start a new thread to outline my experience. I didn't search for new threads here about Vista upgrade on G35 (just found this old link to my post), think I will do that later.

I was able to get the upgrade to work, though my G35-AV650 died not too long afterward.

I had to use a retail Vista disc, with the unzipped raid driver off the toshiba EUROPE site on a USB key, and I was able to install to a RAID stripe. Admittedly, things were blindingly fast right up until the video card blew out. (If yours is still working then be careful--G30/G35 video cards are dying left and right--get a laptop cooler ASAP and hope you don't also get billed $900+ for a new motherboard.)

It's a pain but it can be done.

the qosmio doesn't run on plain xp but rather a "media edition" build of xp, which you need for all the media features it has built into it. i know because i use to have a qosmio before the motherboard finally died.
