Hello Everyone,
I was a proud owner of a Toshiba Qosmio X300-11W (UK Model) which I purchased in early 2009.
Unfortunately in mid 2010 about 6 months outside of warranty it developed a fault and no longer booted up. Since then I've been trying to get it up and running again. During the time up to it failure I experienced graphics corruption on the windows recovery screen (I think I might even have a very poor picture of this somewhere if you feel it would help) and some other strange issues which I struggle to remember now. Now when I turn it on all I get is some blocks of colour and some lines (please see picture attached).
The Specification of my laptop is:
Intel® Core2 Extreme Processor X9100
4GB PC8500 DDR3 Memory
1,680 x 1,050 , 17 " Toshiba TruBrite® WSXGA+ Screen
NVIDIA® GeForce® 9800M GTX 1GB Graphics Card

Timeout Error - Toshiba
I was convinced that the issue was being caused by a faulty graphics card, especially considering the bad reputation that Nvidia had for laptop graphics cards around this time.
In late 2010 I purchased an X300-11S off eBay which was being sold for parts in the hope that I could use the 9700M GTS in there to get mine up and running again. Unfortunately all I got was a blank screen when turning the laptop on with this graphics card installed, when putting my 9800 GTX into the X300-11S I also got no life, I therefore concluded that it was caused by the screens in the different models running at different resolutions so as the screen of the X300-11S was smashed it was useless to me.
Now we come to a week ago when I finally spotted a UK seller selling a Nvidia 9800M GTX 1GB card of exactly the same part number of mine on eBay for a X300 Qosmio Laptop, I jumped at the chance and purchased it. Unfortunately to my horror when installing it I experience exactly the same fault as my old graphics card.
I'm now left lost, confused and frustrated. Is it really not my graphics card afterall? Or is my luck so bad that I've purchased another graphics card with an identical fault?
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I'm considering changing over the video cable on the two screens with the one of the X300-11S but I expect as they use different resolutions its not going to work anyway...
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael

Hello,
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Michael -
does the laptop display to an external monitor??

I would check with a external monitor as well. Does windows boot in background? Can you hear it? If not, remove the GPU and check again, does it work?
I have seen many X300 issues, but never something like this to be honest...
