Toshiba Qosmio X770 3D (Nvidia Geforce GTX 560M) Hands on by notebookjournal.de [German/Deutsch] - YouTube
The Satellite I got now from 3 years ago is as stiff as a board. This Qosmio is both fairly ugly and, apparently, somewhat fragile. It does not inspire confidence when I'm considering throwing down $1670 on one... -
My wonderful Asus G50V (Best Buy exclusive model) died on me Friday. Either MB or internal power related issue. Served me well for almost 3 years and I'd still be using it for awhile if it hadn't died.
Looking into replacing it now and I saw the Qosmio X775-3DV80 on Amazon and it sounds really nice. I don't really need the 3d display though. Do they make a model with same specs but no 3d display? -
They don't come with a 1080p screen. NON-3D x775 Qosmios are 900p screen only.
I'm not sure if this is possible, but if you can play games at 120hz without using 3D, might still be worth it. [3D screens are 120 hz, regular LCD screens are 60 hz].
****Moving to x775-3D thread -
That sucks.
this may be a stupid question but I don't know anything about 3d - the 3d feature isn't "always on" on is it? I don't want to have to wear the glasses for everything I want to do.
Well, I'm leaning towards that one then or maybe a Sager 8180 with the sli 560s. Costs a little bit more but will be better performance. -
I have a few question for the 3DV78 or 3DV80 owners...
1. Does the fan run a lot ... and if so, is it loud? (Seems from reading that it is very quite, but would like reaffirmation.)
2. Does the unit get very hot? (Again, from reading, seems not so much unless under heavy load with gaming.)
3. Can the back-lit keyboard be turned on permanently (no auto-off)?
4. Can the touchpad be turned off so that it is not accidentally bumped (for when using a mouse)?
5. Where is the power plug connection? (It looks like the left side near the rear, but would like confirmation.)
6. Any notable differences between the V78 and V80?
I am also considering the Qosmio X770-BT5G24 that can be customized. I don't use 3D, but sort of wanted the 1080p screen, although I also want W7 Pro. I might could live with 1600 x 900, as my eyesight is not so good anyway. I wonder if the non 3D display will be good quality on the G24.
Thanks! -
I own a Qosmio X775 3DV78 lap-top, I bought it in June and love it. Here are some answers that you wanted. The noise from the cpu fan is not very noisy even when running at full rpm. The left side of the lap-top gets very hot after playing games for a long period of time but I fixed that issue with a lap-top cooler. You can turn off both key board and mouse back lights with a push of a button or using the "FN" key. The power cable is located on the left side of the lap-top. My lap-top did have a throttling issue but I fixed it by flashing it to the 1.10 bios. The screen on this thing is very clear and sharp. I have played a few 3d games on this lap-top and it looks amazing!
This is my second Qosmio lap-top and I love the speakers, also I have the video card over-clocked and play bf3 at almost max settings with around 62fps. I hope this answers most of your questions.. If you want I can post some bench mark scores that I have run on this lap-top -
Thanks for the info. As I was reading more threads on it, your responses seem to be the consensus for the most part.

Is the display very picky about getting the best viewing angle? I was looking at one today at Best Buy, although they did not have the 3D model... and there was a very small positioning range for the display to look its best. Tilt it too far back and it became too dark... too much forward and it looked washed out. The change was drastic and not viewable for me except in that one very limited position. I am curious if the 1080p screen might be better quality than the 1600 x 900 screen? I guess I am somewhat spoiled with my XPS 17.

Is this what you are referring to?

It's been awhile since you asked, but for the benefit of anyone researching these models who reads, the viewing angles on the 3D screen are much better than the 1600x900. It's also dimmer, but still perfectly fine as most won't be using this heavy beast outdoors in the sun. Also, to my eyes, it looks great right out of the box -- no fiddlin' needed (or very minor). Just got mine, so don't have a lot of experience, but first impressions are very good. I bought the 3D model especially so as to get the HD 1920x1080 3D display (as well as all the other goodies, 2670m CPU, 560m GPU, BluRay, etc.). As many have commented, sound is excellent for a notebook.
