Hi everyone,
I am new here and have a certain problem with my Qosmio. Cant rely on Toshiba, the After Sales Service is Non-Existent in my country and their online contact is not responding.
Whenever I am using Balance or High Performance Mode when playing certain games (power consuming games?), it would turn off by itself. These games often wont even go past the menu screen. Example of the games: Skyrim, Fallout 4, Krater, Deadlight, The Forest and such games.
When using Power Saver Mode, I could play those games but they will lag badly.
Only some very simple games can be played normally now (In any of the Modes). Such as Risk of Rain, Salt & Sanctuary, Faster Than Light (FTL), Binding of Isaac and such.
I used to be able to play those other games normally (Not on Max setting but decent setting).
Now I cant even play most of my games.
This is NOT Overheating Problem by the way
It seems that it has something to do with the Laptop Fuse?? So when the Electricity goes beyond a certain level, the laptop would shut by itself. The Fuse weakens over the year and now the limit goes down quite a lot from its original state.
During normal, non-gaming use though, I can use any mode and do anything. Watch movie, browse internet, etc with no problem at all.
Is there a guide to fix this fuse thing? I do not know where it is and what it looks like.
I hope this forum can help me ><
Thank you for your kind help =)
* I have tried:
- Reset Laptop while keeping the files
- Clean the inside of the laptop

I am sorry to hear about that. Unfortunately i owned the same model as well as my brother and these laptops after 4 years of gaming start to fall apart.
I can give some ideas regarding this issue if its not overheating like you say:
- Try using only 1 memory block if you have 2. If one of them is not working properly you will notice a difference in performance.
- If there is a component causing instability to the system such as faulty USB ports (this happened to me), you can try using the computer and unplug one by one.
- The laptop battery is known to cause random shutdowns and loading controller problems. Try unplugging the battery and running it while plugged.
I forgot to mention that i would not discard overheating issues. I repasted my own 3dv78 2 times and when i opened it for the first time, the thermal grease inside was unevenly spread.
If you decide to open it be sure to take precautions for getting rid of static electricity from your body since you can cause a bigger harm to your system.
if i have any other ideas i will let you know. I hope you can solve your problem =). -
Hi, thank you so much for your reply =)
I forgot to mention that My battery died a while ago. So I can only run it plugged now.
As for your other solutions:
- How do I do he memory block thing?
- Faulty USB? As in not using the ports that are faulty (if any)?
- As for the paste, I probably need to replace that too. I got this laptop on Oct 2011, been quite a while.
What about the fuse thingy I mentioned previously? Is there really such thing? A friend of mine told me about it
Thank you =) -

It sounds like the same problem I had with my Qosmio. Dead GTX 560m. It seems like your intel processor is running your graphics, not the Nvidia card. If that ends up being the case, your options are to bake the GPU, or replace it.

So with what you said, the laptop itself is running well, but it just cant do decent-high games / do anything heavy anymore??
I am still using that same laptop everyday without problem, only to watch movies, browse internet & low gaming (pixelated games mostly). Anything higher / heavy and it will most probably turn off.
But even if the GPU is dead, shouldn't it still be able to run normally with the intel GPU?
The laptop is still in good condition (except the dead battery). I still want to use this old lappy if possible..
*Fyi, I have since then renew the thermal paste. Still having the same problem.Last edited: Oct 16, 2017 -
Hi, i have a similar problem. When I set the processor consumption to 60% or lower, the laptop does not shut down. Have tou found a solution?
