The R500 is an absolutely beautiful machine - until you turn it on. The screen is deplorable for such a high end machine. Unless you look directly at it, it becomes almost unviewable. I know that this particular screen has been designed to use outside as well as inside, but it seems a big sacrifice to make for viewing quality indoors.

It could be different screen brands.

I remember a similiar discussion when the X205 first came out. Apparently there were two different manufacturers, LG and another.....Anyway - The it caused some confusion as some were saying that the screen was awesome - and others returning it for bad screen quality.

    Go figure...

I had the same issues with Lenovo's lappys... pretty annoying you can't predict the quality of a 2K+ laptop.

Could very well be. Most notebook manufacturers have different screen suppliers for their lineups - i.e. LG and Samsung.

All I know is that the R500 I had a chance to use, had a nice and vibrant screen.
