    Hi Guys,

I just purchased a Toshiba R835-P81 and noticed that the screen has what looks like a screen door effect. Where if you stare at the screen you see gaps in the individual white pixels.

There is a post on the toshiba forum, but they just state to update the latest BIOS and install the latest video card drivers which I did. Do you think it's a defective laptop?

I've seen the screen on the Z830 and you can't see the screen door effect on it. I haven't seen a screen door effect on a laptop screen for over 6-7 years. Some people I showed it to don't really notice, but others see it right away as well.

Anyone heard of this issue or is it just the screen itself?

surely screen door should only occur if the display resolution isnt set to the native res of the screen? if thats the case and your still experiencing it then faulty screen. tbh am suprised you can see it on a 13" screen, its typically picked up on projectors on like 10' screens!lol!

    Thanks,

I ordered a new laptop, hopefully it was just defective. Although there are 2 different posts on the toshiba tech support message board stating the same issue. The Z830 Ultrabook does not have this problem and I'm using the native resolution, with the latest video card driver and BIOS.

I hope this isn't a wide spread problem.

My R835-P55x has that too. IIRC it was the same with in-store demo units though, so I assumed they're all like that.

Well I just received my 2nd R835-P81 and it arrived with the exact same "Screen Door" effect. I guess it's just the way it looks. I wouldn't be able to live with it, but it was for my girlfriend and she wouldn't have even noticed if I didn't point it out to her.

Guess Toshiba doesn't have quality displays on the R835 series.
