Ok so trying to buy the wife's next laptop. We took a trip down to BB yesterday and took a look at the P50. She really liked the combination of size, weight, battery life, and price.

The P50X has the i3 2310m while the P56X has the i5 2410m. Based upon doing a google search the only limited data I could find says the i5 has .2 ghz faster opperating frequency with "turbo boost" up to 2.9ghz while the i3 does not offer this.

Amazon had the p56 for $875/free shipping while BB has the P50X for $749. In your opinion is it worth the $125 for step up in processor?

We typically keep the lappys for 4+ years so our replacement cycle is a bit longer than most. Any input on this would be appreciated as we are about ready to pull the trigger!

If you wouldn't mind what do you expect the laptop to do for the next 4 years?

If your just going to play around on the internet, and do word processing maybe watch some videos then the I3 is fine. If your going to be doing some light gaming or processor intense things then the I5 would be the choice.

She's a teacher/student so does basic MS Office apps, web surfing, skype, etc...

I wouldn't mind being able to play the equivalent of Diablo 3 on it should it ever come out... Not sure if the i3/i5 would change that though since it's an Integrated GPU.

Overall just want it to stay "quick" for sometime now for general purpose use.

Depending on where you live, the difference is probably much less than $125. Unless you live in Oregon, Best Buy will charge tax. Amazon charges sales tax in Kansas, Kentucky, New York, North Dakota, and Washington.

So for me in California, Best Buy's price would be $841.03 ($749 + 9.75% tax + $19 recycling fee for the screen). So with a difference of only $33.97, I'd definitely go for Amazon. Your difference is probably more around $60 since you probably have a lower tax rate and no recycling fee...assuming you don't also live in California.

We live in Utah so it looks like I would save on the 6.75% sales tax then... Great point!

So the difference is $75.44. So still something to ponder over...

Here in CA we get screwed with our 9.75% and our eWaste recycling fees. On the bright side, this decision would be a really easy one for me since the difference in final cost would be trivial :D
