    Hey guys..

There is this i3 processor toshiba r840 with express card slot.. Do u guys think the i3 will be a bottleneck when using DIY egpu thru expresscard slot? It has intel graphics and no dedicated graphics And I want to play battlefield 3 on ultra settings using egpu.

    Thanks.

If the game is not CPU intensive, then you should be fine (i3 will perform at a superior, but similar level as a core-2-duo).

This link shows that for most games the bottleneck is the GPU:

The above image shows BattleField - Bad Company 2 (should give similar performance to BF3); on a GT 540m but with varying i3/i5/i7 mobile CPUs. As you can see the FPS is very similar between the duo and quad core CPUs.

I do know the above does NOT apply to games like Starcraft, and TF2 which are heavily dependent on the CPU and can have FPS variations of 20-40 fps.

    Good luck
