Does anyone have any experience with a Toshiba R845-S80? This appears... to be a little known model that for some reason is not distributed in volume. It may be a year old discontinued model or something new or ?

    Any insights, opinions?

    Thanks !

The r850 is the 15" Tecra. It's part of the r8XX series that was released earlier this year

I haven't heard of many that buy it [most buy r830, r840], but it's the same thing as the r840 [14" Tecra], but 1 inch bigger. [carbon fiber body]

As you probably already know, the r830/35 is the Toshiba portege, which is the 13.3" [metal chassis body]

The portege/Tecras are pretty much the same thing, but differ in size. Hence: r830, r840, r850.

    Good luck

    ***EDIT*****
I actually looked up that exact model. Looks to be a stripped down version of the r840 (cheaper). Looks like it's available at Staples.

Yes, it appears to be some sort of Staples-centric unit, I3 based, but can't find anything substantive. While the price may be ok finding support may be impossible.

    Thanks

I'm not sure where this wins over the 13" model. Although the display is bigger, it has the same resolution and the port count looks very similar. It's possible that the slightly bigger chassis has been used to provide a bigger cooling system but it's also possible that Toshiba are using the same mainboard and associated hardware. If they provided a 1600 x 900 display on this model then it would be of greater interest.

I might've bought this instead of the R835 if I could find a seller back then. 14" is closer to my ideal size, but 13" works too.
