I recently picked up this laptop and wanted to share some information on it. It doesn't appear to be much news out there about the FX-8800P Processor nor this laptop. I've taken it apart and installed a SSD into it. I have 2 sticks of 2133mhz ram on the way that I will install next week. Here's some pics of the inside that I posted. The rest are linked.

Please test this thing down to the maximum.
I'd be interested to see how this behaves not just in games with dual-channel and fast ram, but also in professional programs such as 3d studio Max (if possible).

Here's my first round of tests. I'm still trying to find a proper app to log the frequency and temps.

    Toshiba Radius 14 E45DW-C
FX-8800p 15w (hopefully someone can unlock this to full 35w!!)

Setup: Laptop set to high performance, CPU Min/Max state set to 100%, SSD 480gb PNY CS1100 installed, the rest is stock. Running Catalyst driver 15.20.1055 all default settings. Logging done with hwinfo64 for speed & temps

Octane 2.0 on Power in Edge: 18601
Octane 2.0 on Battery in Edge: 18559

Test ran 6 times, this is score from the last of the test. The beginning test scored slighter higher as temperature was cooler.

Do you have the 2133 MHz RAMs installed for this test? What kind of RAM is it?

Tests done with stock ram. No point in faster ram if carrizo is at 15w it can only use 1600mhz.

hp envy 15z (m6-p113dx) here. using stock hardware. fatter and uglier laptop, but cheaper. complete with an unused space meant for dvddrives that you can use to smuggle drugs or something.

I was going to attribute the superior score to dual channel ram, even if its a horrible 6GB config.
however I noticed your lack of "turbo" core clock. and your is listed as an AMD r6 ?wtf? . its an 8800p man. should be r7... drivers?

I'm running the drivers that came with it. I see you're using newer than mine. I'll update the drivers and rerun. Also looks like the cpu throttled down to 1.4ghz in mine, I haven't found anything to keep a good log of the speed changes yet.

Word of advice: for best test results, if possible do a FRESH Windows Install and use latest official drivers.
Stock drivers/setup can bog things down unnecessarily.

Do we have any confirmation that the 15W 8800p can only use 1600MhZ RAM?
You mentioned that you have 2133MhZ RAM on the way... so, if you still do, test the system with that too, but also install latest drivers.

You could do a comparison... with latest drivers but before and after RAM upgrade.
Single-channel RAM usually results in bad performing iGP on AMD hardware (which loves dual channel, low timings and fast ram).

Next best thing, look for low RAM clock timings

8800p at 15w only supports 1600mhz. 35w 8800p you can use faster ram. I tried the ram, no change so some of early previews were on the mark.

for both ram speed and timing, my understanding is there needs to be bios support... and I have not heard of any. does toshiba bios let you do an "XMP memory profile" or something? is there ANY 8800p or 8700p that is confirmed working with ddr3L-2133mhz?

The bios on the radius are bare, no options for memory profile. Only 35w processors of carrizo work with speeds higher than 1600. Everything 15w you're stuck at 1600. AMD neutered carrizo by only allowing higher ram speeds on 35w only and OEMS euthanize it by placing 15w in huge chasis instead of sleek ultrabook like models that end up with mainly Intel. Also, the only model so far listed as 35w Carrizo is the upcoming Lenovo Y series.

Apparently Toshiba has a variant claiming an 256MB SSD and IPS 1366×768 screen, starting in the AU/NZ region:
    Radius 14-C003

Nice! The crappy TN display killed it for me but an IPS display would make me want to buy it again, even if only at 1366x768. My eyes don't seem as good as they used to be so I don't mind this resolution. Great find!

You can make a system backup (including the recovery/factory partition) using the built in windows utility
