    Hi

Going to be installing RAM into a Toshiba Satellite A55 series. Crucial.com scan results:
    http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/viewscanbyid.aspx?id=F010ED6831D926C3

The person I'm doing the RAM upgrade for uses her laptop 99% for playing FarmTown and apparently this game is a real memory hog. She is currently running on the original 512MB RAM that came with the Toshiba (I know, so little!!)

Any advice as to how much RAM to upgrade to? How much would be enough (according to CrucialScan, it can take up to 2GB) and would it be worth doing a max upgrade? How much of a difference will a 1GB vs 2GB make or are there other issues that would affect performance?

I'm not familiar with Toshiba (I have an Acer Aspire) so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'll wait for replies/advice before making any RAM upgrades in case increasing RAM wont be the (only) solution to make playing FarmTown less sluggish on the notebook.

Thanks, in advance, for any help!

    Cheers,

    FOJO

My guess is that it has two 2*256 memory sticks. Usually one is easily replaceble by the user, the other one requires taking the laptop apart.

I would buy one 1 Gig (I believe it is a 200 pin sodimm) for a total of 1256 MB of ram.

    Should be more then enough.

@ Learux: I should have mentioned that it has one 512mb stick and its OS is XP.

So would adding a 1GB stick to whats already there be enough to get this Tosh to be less sluggish while playing Farmtown? Or should we go broke and get 2 x 1GB modules and get the max RAM? Would there be much difference between 1.5GB & 2GB in terms of performance?

Should have clicked on your link.

I would not buy the 2 x 1 GB, not worth it.

Both 1GB or 1.5GB are nice increases of what you have.

I would buy one 1 GB stick and be happy, unless she has Vista

How much RAM (random access memory) do I need to play Farm Town

If you are running Windows XP, you need at least 1GB of RAM to play Farm Town. If you are running Windows Vista you will need 2GB. To check how much RAM you have installed on your windows system, click on My Computer, then “View system information.”

It may be helpful to know that some RAM is held in reserve for core system resources. Therefore, if you have 2GB installed, the system information on your computer may report only 1.75.
