On the ToshibaDirect.com website, the configurable Satellite M300 (14.1"), A300 (15.4") and P300 (17") disappeared early last week. Currently, only pre-configured versions of those models are available.

I spoke with a Toshiba representative today and he confirmed that they are making the change to Centrino 2 (aka Montevina) for all Satellite models (except the value-oriented L305/L355). The 'Centrino 2' update includes the following-

-The latest Intel (Penryn) processors (2.0-2.6GHz, 1066MHz FSB)
    -Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500
    -Intel WiFi Link 5100AGN wireless

    Additional info-
-Faster memory than the current DDR2-667 will be supported, likely DDR2-800 or possibly even DDR3-1066
-Discrete graphics offerings will continue to be from the ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3000-series (3450/3470/3650).

The updated 'configurable' models will appear on the website no later than October 3. In addition, a number of pre-configured retail models will also be introduced using the updated components.

Well, you've certainly had a lot more luck in getting more information out of Toshiba than me! The helpdesk in Australia is useless! Almost as bad as HP!!!!!!!!

Any chance you can find out if the screen can be replaced for a higher res in the "configurable" models? If so, is it possible to find out the Toshiba part number or model number of the screen?

To date, the Satellite models have only been offered with one display resolution. The 15.4" and smaller have a WXGA display (1280x800) and the 17" models have WXGA+ (1440x900)- both are rather basic specs and out of place on models over $1000. Hopefully, the newest Satellite A300 and P300 will have higher resolution options. Even HP started offering upgrades on their latest dv5z/t.

Tecra models, the older M9/A9 and the new M10/A10, offer optional resolution display. Both the M (14.1") and A (15.4") models have a WXGA (1280x800) display as standard, but the M9/10 offers a WXGA+ (1440x900) option and the A9/10 offers a WSXGA+ (1680x1050) option.

It might be possible to use one of those higher resolution displays (offered on Tecra) and install it in a Satellite M300 or A300. That's just speculation, though....
