ok, I know that the Toshiba Satellite has a questionable build quality. When I bang away at the keys, I can hear a slight rattle underneath. I discovered that there is a plate that isn't extremely securely fastened. So I tried tightening the screws, and to my surprise ALL the screws on the bottom of the laptop aren't very tight. So I tightened them all myself. Is this ok? Were they purposely not tightened well for a reason? Maybe to compensate for heat or something? I can't imagine me tightening them doing any harm....I tightened probably an extra turn/turn and a half to 2 turns.
The rattle is still there...I don't think I can do anything about it.

I don't think tightening them will damage the notebook in any way unless you went overboard and overtightened them.
-
I definitely did not overtighten them so I guess I should be good to go. Just wondering why they wouldn't all be a little tighter/snug out of the box?
-
How old is the notebook, what model, and how much did you pay for it? Toshiba's lower-end stuff isn't built as well as their high-end stuff.
-
Brand new Satellite A100-OFH ($1000 cdn). It's definitely lower end compared to their better stuff. You get what you pay for (usually) but as a student, this is all I can afford. If I put some scotch tape around the seems, it will probably help. Not a big deal anyway.

Hmm...
I would've expected a little better from Toshiba in their A100 series - some models in that lineup can get quite pricey. Good Luck with your notebook! -
you're right, they do have some pricey models in the A100 Satellite series...after trying a few of them I can say that the build construction leaves much to be desired. I'm actually thinking about jumping ship to HP, although it is pricey. I noticed that the HP 5030 is a duo 1.83 and compared to the A100 1.6 duo core it doesn't get as HOT.
