My notebook is about 5 years old. Everytime I start up the computer and run a number of applications the fan turns on full power. When that happens the computer just shuts off. If I don't 'overstress' the computer the computer stays on. That means I can't use Netscape(which uses alot of processing power) can't watch video clips and other programs. Can someone help me?

I would first suggest cleaning your notebook's fans/internals out to see if that resolves your problem. I suggest using a can of compressed air.
