Alright,
I just got home with a brand new Satellite A100 TA9 (T5600)
There is something i have noticed.... the keyboard seem to bounce (up and down) when i type, especially if you press any center keys.
Its like the keyboard was made out of rubber paper with nothing holding the center. know what i mean ???
This imho is not acceptable for a 1300.00 bucks laptop. It feals kinda low quality made.
Is it only me or is it an issue to all Toshiba laptop ????

I would take it back. That is way too much flexing. I don't seem to have any flexing at all on my M-55.
-
It is a pretty bad keyboard, my m40 has the same problem but it's not quite as bad.
-
HI, i got a Satelite Pro U200 and my keyboard also flexes (bounces). I have thought about bringing it back to store. Will you do that? Inform us if they gave you a new one.
-
Well the bouncing (flexing) thing really gets on my nerve..
It feels fragile and cheaply made.
The problem is that it was the last one in store and i need a latop at work.. returning it will only make me purchase a more expensive laptop.
The satellite A100 TA9 is the only laptop on the market that cost 1300.00 and comes with a Geforce Go 7600 graphic card..
There's probably a way to fix it... but i have no clue how to open this laptop and put some Crazy glue ... and it will probably void the warranty if i break something.
REturning it is an option but the store is giving me 15 days to decide...
Like someone said, it may not be a big deal... but i dunno... i can't stand a bouncing keyboard like that...
anyway.... will let you know -
What you are describing is the New "improved" Spill-Proof keyboard from Toshiba. They all flex .... but it should only be about 1mm if it is built correctly.
-
spill proof ????
you mean to avoid breaking the lcd screen when dropped ? -
-
I have used computers for the last 25 years and i have never spill anything on any keyboard...
And the thousands of people i know who also use computers.. not a single person ever spilled anything on their keyboard.
Sure it can happen to few people but the probability that it does is not important enough to annoye 99.9% of all buyers who don't spill anything on their keyboard.
Did toshiba really designed this Spill-proof to annoye 99.9% of the owners just to protect 0.1% of ppl who eat and drink at their computer ?
Who ever made that irational decision at Toshiba should be fired..
I just called Toshiba HQ, and they transfered me to a local Toshiba tech service.
The service guy (some kid) said that he won't replace the keyboard because its not deffective, and he won't modify anything (like placing a solid plate, tape, glue) because it will void the warranty. So basically he said, theres nothing Toshiba can do.
I called Toshiba HQ back, and the CS representative told me that if i don't like it, i can just exchange for another Toshiba.... (yea right, to exchange for what ?)
I really really want to open the toshiba myself and fix the **** thing but i can't find any Step-by-step guide to open the A100 TA9.
I've tried removing all B6 screws but it did not open... I tried to lift the silver face plate near the speakers but i didnt move so i gave up as i don't want to leave any scratch or worst breaking it... -
Funny story about that whole spilling thing. When i worked for a small computer company, we would get all of the city's business, like courts, police, etc. I went in one morning to a dell laptop that needed 'fixed'. Evidentally a cop spilled his entire cup of coffee on the computer, and it would not turn on. I painstakingly spend 16 hours (2 days of work), taking every single component apart and cleaning it, and it actually worked when it was put back together.
On a side note, my keyboard has no vertical play on it, my only grudge, it that my 'h' key sits lower than the rest of my keys, but i took the key off and couldnt find anything wrong with it, it just seems to sit a little lower than any of the other keys. -

I have a Satellite Pro L100 and my keyboard has no noticeable flex under normal use, only if you really prod the keys.
Toshiba Satellite = Badly made keyboard ?
