Is there a way to make the screen of my laptop brighter? Or perhaps alter the contrast?

My desktop allows for adjustments right on the monitor using buttons, however the only adjustment I can find for my laptop screen is to hold in Fn and hit F6 or F7 depending if I want to make it more or less bright.

However I find that the maximum setting using the Fn+F7 hotkey isn't bright enough to my liking. Is there a possible way to increase the brightness of the screen?

Powerstrip will do the job, though the free version comes witha nag screen
Or Ati tray tools - assuming ofcouse you have ati in that system.
