I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2071 whose fan has been getting really loud lately, and its very hot underneath the laptop and is easily susceptible to overheating. It's not a grinding noise, so I figured the fan is just clogged with dust and hair and things of that nature. What is the easiest way to access the fan and clean it out? Do I have to go through all those steps in the guide thats out there to disconnect the motherboard? Or can I just unplug the computer, pull out the battery, unscrew the bottom of the laptop, then spray compressed air into the fan?

I've found a strong vacuum cleaner and compresses air works well on my X205. There is no way I'm taking the entire thing apart, and vacuuming, then blowing, then re-vacuuming removes a tremendous amount of gunk. Just be carefull to insert something into the fan blades to protect them from over-spinning....assuming they are accesible on your machine. In my x205, I can slip a straightened paper clip up into the blade as I'm cleaning it out.

Get yourself a can of Air Duster , try Ebay as shop prices are a rip-off.
I just cleaned out the fan/heatsink assembly on my P30 , and i had to stip the entire laptop down to do thougher job, I re applied AS5 to the CPU while i was cleaning it!
It now runs virutaly silent in idle mode in Xp
I found a strip-down guide on the net, there is a A105 version , but it`s a big and risky job!
