Hi everyone,
I bought a Satellite for school 1 year ago (August 2006) and I'm on my THIRD hard drive. Toshiba replaced the original with 1 month left on my warranty and the hard drive barely lasted 2 months. Now I bought my own Western Digital hard drive and installed it myself. I think it's going to fail soon because there's a pattern emerging...everything works fine until the BIOS begins telling me there's no hard drive there. I have to restart until the hard drive is recognized. Otherwise the computer tries to boot off of a non-existent network, getting the PXE errors.
WHAT IS CAUSING MY HARD DRIVES TO FAIL!??! Should I even bother spending 80 dollars on another hard drive if this one goes. HD Tune says the hard drive is fine but why in God's name can't it be recognized everytime on startup?
Let me know please,
Karl

First of all, I wouldn't spend any money on getting the hard drive replaced. Western Digital should have their own warranty on the drive you bought (even OEM notebook hard drives are generally warranted anywhere from 3-5 years).
What happens if you hook up your SECOND hard drive (the one you replaced with your WD drive) through a USB enclosure? Is it detected and usable, or does Windows not recognize it? I ask because it's entirely possible your hard drive controller is failing, in which case you'd be best off replacing the whole notebook, since that would require a motherboard replacement. -
The second hard drive had a failed sector reallocation count and everytime I booted up, S.M.A.R.T told me failure was imminent, so I tossed it. The computer froze every few minutes, was pretty useless.
I haven't hooked up anything via USB that's hard drive related. If this drive fails, I will try that. -
I'm getting blue screens of death now whereas before I didn't. Physical memory dumps don't even finish completing. Is this a symptom of a bad hard drive controller/motherboard issue?

Why u see appearance of blue screens?
