Hi, I am getting ready to purchase a notebook for my personal use. I do not know much about notebooks and I was wondering if I should purchase the Toshiba Satellite A60 S1662 or the DellInspirion 1000? Which is better? Or is there another one in the same price rage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thans!!!

Well, if I had to choose between these 2 systems, I'd go for the Toshiba. The reason is because this Dell is their lowest model. I think I've read that there's problems with it. Check the Dell fourm on this site and doa search for this model.
What will you mainly be using the system for (be specific)? Do you want to be mobile? What's your max price range?
From the looks at the specs, this will be a basic notebook that will probably good for the internet, office apps, playing DVD's & listening to music. But if you want to play the newer games on this, it's just not going to work well. Because the units are Celeron based, battery life and computing power will be lacking. Therefore mobility will be very limited, also because of the weight (approx 7-8lbs). If you can spend a little more, like maybe $1200-1300, then you should be able to get a bunch of loaded systems that will be better suited for computing power, mobility & price.
Some systems that are in the $1300 range:
Acer Aspire 2012WLCi/WLMi (Pentium M CPU, better battery life, more computing power, lighter, more features)
eMachines M68xx (AMD64 CPU, excellent CPU power, lower battery life than a Pentium M (2-3hrs max), light, more features)
Averatec 6100 Series (P4 CPU, great CPU power, low battery life (similar to the A60), approx 8lbs, more features)

Thaks so much for your advice. I will look into the other systems. Have a super week! Leann77
