    Hey guys!

I have been having an issue with my laptop for a month now with spontaneous shutdowns and blackouts.

It started off really badly with the laptop shutting down every 10 minutes until the point I couldn't start it at all. Once sent off to get it repaired, they replaced the motherboard and everything seemed to be OK.

However! the problem still persists... this time the laptop lights dim and it shuts down or sleeps. Sometimes it even restarts. The really odd thing is that I have tried to catch it in time when its about to shut down and press the power button. This somehow saves it from shutting down/going to sleep and the screen returns! Very odd...

In Event Viewer it says its: Event ID: 41 Source: Kernel-Power.

To try and sort it out I have updated the graphics card, cleaned the vents, scanned for viruses, tried running the laptop on battery, AC and both (still occurs randomly with both... more rapidly on battery alone) and cleaning out my hard drive. This will probably not do anything but make me feel better!

I am totally out of ideas and will have to phone the repair guys again... Just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions or advice! Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks

What are the temperatures before it shutsdown/restarts? If you don't know, try a small program like HWmonitor: CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Could be an overheating problem; maybe the thermal paste has degraded; I'm assuming the vents/fans are ok since you said you cleaned them.

    Keep us posted

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I do have a program called SpeedFan and shows the temperatures of the cores. I am pretty sure that laptop was cool at the times of shut downs as I can tell quite quickly if its hot! When I used to run games on it it used to reach around 70 degrees (not good) and that was normal! I also tested out a game and it ran it smoothly.

Here are the readings just taken a few minutes ago: (stable)

Extra info: Before it all began I ran a BIOS update (now maybe a foolish choice) could that have caused the problem? and maybe is still causing the problem? Toshiba Service Centre still says I can reinstall it but I don't know if this is wise... but then again why is it giving me the option to reinstall?
