I have a satellite 5205-s505 that is about 3 years old. I have had no problems with it until today. My ac power adapter has ceased to deliver power to the computer. I am thinking that the adaptor/transformer is fried but I am unsure if the problem may be at the adapter port on the laptop. I assume that it is the adapter since it usually stays hot when plugged into the wall and when I plug it in now it stays cold. I am almost ready to take it to a repair shop, but I dont want to pay for a service call if all I need to do is buy a new adapter.

I had been running the laptop pretty hard for the past several days building some mysql databases. Is it possible for the adapter to overheat and die?

    Thanks

Do you have to jiggle the power adapter cord when it goes into the laptop? If you do, you may have a faulty power supply inside the notebook itself, otherwise its probably the adapter.
