Hi, I just got a Toshiba Satellite for Christmas today and it randomly shut down while using it. The battery was still at sixty percent, but when I turned the computer back on, it showed it at just five percent. I thought that maybe it was only a mistake, but then it happened again just now. I found this forum through Google and thought that maybe someone on here might have an idea as to what's wrong. I really don't want to tell my mother to return it when she's worked so hard to even get me a laptop.
Anyways, any information at all would be a big help. And thanks to those who answer!

The computer shuts down? [as in Windows goes through the shutdown process. explaining "shutting down"] or does the computer just turn off without warning?
If it shuts down without warning, could be a battery problem. Fully charge the battery before using [takes 3-4 hours]; that could be your problem.
Good luck -
Thank you for the reply! I'll try that, because when I first opened it, I must admit that I didn't give it a few hours to charge. Instead I used it while letting it charge. And yes, it just shuts down without warning. I'll do what you said, though. Thanks for the help!

Check what it says on your power brick and what it says on the bottom of the notebook.
The power brick and notebook will probably both be 19V, but make sure the amps match up.
I bought a toshiba notebook a few days ago and it came with a 19V 3A charger while the notebook needed 19V 6.3A (written on the bottom).
When I tried to use it on the weak charger supplied, it turned off without warning. Maybe you have a similar problem.
I'm currently using a power adapter (brick) from my old MSI notebook which luckily is 19V 6.3A and has the same connector.
