Hello everyone, Newbie here! Please go easy on me!!

I was looking for some assistance from anyone who would be able to give it.
I have a problem with the Toshiba Satellite L745D laptop that I just purchased last night. I bought it from Wal-mart, and dropped a cool 400$ on it.

Now, the laptop itself is originally advertised with a hard drive of 640 GB, and to my surprise, when I bought it and checked the specs, it only had 540 GB and almost 100 gb of that is currently being used by programs that have initially been installed on the Machine.

Now my question is, is this an issue that I need to take up with Toshiba or wal-mart themselves? One of the only reasons why I bought this laptop is because it was advertised with 640gb, but now only to find out it doesn't even have that.

Is this a problem worth complaining about, and taking it up with these companies? Let me know what you think. I'm not much of a tech buff, and that's why I come to you good people!

Thanks for taking the time to read this!!

    Hi xtoxicurex,

Welcome to NBR :D This "hard-drive" issue you mention is typical for all computer manufacturers. Programs on a computer need hard-drive space not only to exist on your laptop, but to function with their duties.
For example, Windows 7 Operating System easliy fill up 50GB of harddrive space alone [even more with updates, pagefile, and hibernation/sleep enabled].

However, you can uninstall some of the "crapware" included with your new Satellite. You do not have to uninstall these programs below, but if you have hard-drive space concerns, it may be helpful.

Above taken from a generic Satellite L745D specification page.

Good luck and enjoy your new laptop :)

It happens with everyone. Basically, they try to "cheat" you. They say their hard drive is 640GB, but after being formatted, installing windows and all those crappy programs, it normally reduces your capacity 50-100GB of advertised.
