Hello, I am starting a new thread about the Toshiba A100-200. No one has seen to give me any advice on what i am looking for? Maybe i haven't been looking in the write section, but anyway.

I am looking to buy a Toshiba A100-200, and i think its very very good for £499 out of John Lewis. [Dec]
But whats the catch, i mean theres everything on it, and the Toshiba A100-147 was slighty higher, but went up £100 in PCW and Currys.
So has this got a discount, or just good?

I've noticed a XGA Screen? - What does this mean?

    Thanks

That notebook is very good. It is built qute strongly, and they are practically availble from every notebook/electronics shop. The A100-200 comes with a 1280x800 resolution. Its an oay resolution. Almost all 15.4" notebooks come with this resolution, but there are some that come with higher ones. Hope this helps.

Just so i know, whats Core Duo like. I have never had it before!

    Thanks

Do you mind posting the configurations of the two systems you're looking at? Chances are there's something different for 100 pounds.

Keep in mind that just like with everything else, you get what you pay for with laptops.

    Good luck.

Maatt, If you are intending to use the FREE upgrade to Vista which comes with all PC's purchased between now and March, then the 512MB Memory is going to be a problem. To upgrade it to 1GB, you will have to discard the 2x 256MB SODIMMs and replace them with 2x 512MB SODIMMs at a cost of almost £200.

The only other difference seems to be that the -200 model has an 80GB Disk which is marginally better.

    Ah! Decisions!!!

p.s. I am happy with my A100-147. It is not as well built as the ThinkPad T & X Series that I am used to but they ar over three times the price.

To be honest, I cant see i find Vista that intersteing and better than XP. I have tried it on my current machine: eMachine 820. 2.60ghz. 512mb of RAM and 256 nVidia graphics card. I tried it at the point when nothing really worked with it, and i had to get patches and other software to make things run. And to be honest i just got bored with it. And its was furstrating, because its like a completely new system.. Well that sounds stupid. But you know!

Chrisyano - Sure, i will post both laptops on here.

Quickly.... does anyone own the Toshiba A100-200?
I would like to know how it functions, because website specs sometimes arent as good as the real thing.
First off, the battery.. someone said that all laptops only last just 2hours or maybe more. This is a 3.27hour laptop..? I wouldnt know, i havent owned a laptop before!
Slow start up? Another person said that all laptops start up very slowly, but once its starts running its fine. That true?

Plus anyone that has it, would they be able to post some pictures on here. As i would like to see it in more detail. I have to wait till xmas to get mine, and i wasnt even allowed to take it out the box! Lol

    Thanks All

I just spotted that the -200 Guarantee is 2 years extendable to 3 years. I believe that the warranty on my A100-147 is 1 year but I could be wrong.

I have purchased an A100-200 from John Lewis and am delighted with it, with one exception that is the sound setup does not give "stereo mix" in Audacity which has restricted my use to a certain extent.
My main reason for posting is that I am attempting to upgrade the RAM and have removed the single screw on the cover as directed in the manual and it does'nt come off. Is there another screw holding it. I am a bit dubious about just undoing screws in case something drops inside.

    Can anyone help with advice.

    Regards Barry
