This is a brand new laptop.
Out of the box, there is a 3-4 inch black bar (right edge) that remains from the dos load up sequence (sorry if incorrect lingo), to the XP Desktop.
This is the spec page. It is a 15.4" and I'm guessing the proper BIOS? is not set up? or what?
I've installed the drivers listed here for display...but no change.
Regardless of what desktop resolution I choose., this black bar remains. If I use anything over true colour 1024X768, the desktop will have hidden portions, that will need me to slide the mouse to the edges to cause the desktop to "Slide" or "Shift" over and thereby make it visible in the 'functioning' part of the display.
I've discovered this thread...but I'm lost. I don't know which driver I'm to choose to download from them, and what the HECK I'm supposed to do with an inf file.
Being a Scam The SourceCC, sent me this out of warantee laptop., I'm returning it...but I'm using my time till then to learn as much as possible (hopefully Tuesday resolution will occur (as e-care is closed on wk-ends))., so this isn't a critical request....but would be gratifying to have resolved this issue in-house.
I've since, run the BIOS update listed, but no change occurred. I've run the RECOVERY CD., same nothing fixed.
oh and I'm getting the sneaky suspicion that the laptopvideo2go website thread I've linked ONLY applies to nVidia cards? and as this is an Intel® Extreme Graphics 2 with 128MB DDR shared video memory card....is useless.

That's weird I think I have the exact same laptop but I've never had this problem. It's not actually an Intel® Extreme Graphics 2 but a GMA900. Other than that I wouldn't know what to do to fix this problem.
-
It's in fact a nice laptop...and on TheSourceCC clearance at 649...VERY attractive. Too bad they listed it as DEMO - having a 1yr warantee from Toshiba., but in fact came 1) defective 2) was a customer return, with in fact O warantee left...hehe yes I called up Toshiba tech-support the night I received this from courier delivery., and the rep confirmed....it was a customer return lol...what a scam. -
No, it's an integrated 128MB intel card.
-
I just wanted to say if you can't fix this problem you should probably just get a different notebook.

This a Video recording of the error. Excuse the background noise....Some of us have kids to play with hehe

p.s. the black bar appears in the startup /dos/ page also as in the F2 load/settings page....this isn't a windows only thing
I have spoken with a head manager at head office who would've replaced it instantly, but it was their last model. Waiting on a call back today. Let's hope for the best. -
Looks like a hardware defect, especially since it exhibits the same issue even before Windows loads. Have you tried connecting to any external monitor - just to narrow down the defect to either the LCD or the graphics card.
-
I'm usually like that...guess this time I was just so stumped.
-Thanks all, I returned it. Unfortunately this was a DEMo (last model) purchase and they didn't have another one for me. I made sure the mgr at head office took this to his QA dept to find out how in Heaven's name it slipped through. Seeing that 'Quality Inspection' sticker on the laptop bag really screwed with my mind when I powered it up to find that fiasco hehe.
