    Hi,

A Toshiba Satellite M55 does not start when I hit the power button. The left LCD at the front is on, which probably indicates that the power supply is working. Are there any known problems with this laptop? Sometimes, every now and then it starts up and works normal.

Did you try taking the battery out, and just use AC power to turn it on? If that works, your battery is dead and needs to be replaced.

Well, I just started having the same problem with the same model Toshiba. I'll keep checking here to see if you come up with anything. If I have any success, I'll post it here so you can try it.

Any system that powers up needs to pass a Video, CPU, and Memory test as part of the 'POST' (Power On Self Test) in order to continue powering up.

Right now I'm going to check my RAM.

The friend I was trying to help took the laptop to a service center to have it fixed. If I find out what they have replaced, I'll let you know.

Hey, I found this on the Toshiba support site. I removed and reseated both the memory stick I added, and the hard disk drive. I fiddled with the power adapter cord where it plugs into the laptop, and then held the power button down for 10 seconds before releasing it, and it powered up. I selected 'Last Known good configuration', and she fired right up. Not sure if I fixed it or what the problem was, but it is still running. I did find that the battery is fully charged. I think my problem has to do with where the power adapter plugs in. The adapter itself is working fine, and putting out proper voltage.

I did all those things and I completely disassembled the laptop, checking and re-seating all the connections. Didn't help at all.
