hello, I recently picked up toshiba p-100, my friend told me they are very good, duo centrino technology.
i was deciding between this and hp pavillion 3.0ghz, 512 ram, 100gb hard drive, ati x600 video card.
anyway, my friend told me p-100 is way better, but when i go to settings, it shows that it's only 1.86ghz.
how could this be better, compare to 3.0ghz hp?
Also is p-100 any good laptop.
    thanks guys

    Adam

    Hi
1.86 Its a Pentium M which is way better than slugish P4 3Ghz.
Pentium M generates less heat and saves you battery life also its good for gaming unlike P4s.

My advice is to go with Pentium M (Centrino).

Both are COMPLETELY different processors. Newer processors like the Turion and Pentium M/Centrino may have lower clock speeds, but perform much faster than you think. For example, a 1.6 ghz Pentium M will perform as fast as a 2.8 ghz Pentium 4.

Maybe you should go and read the processor faq which is on these forums.

i would avoid this model. Prior tog etting my ASUS i was considering this, sincei ts a good price for duo core, but the thing feels and looks cheap. Doesnt surprise me coming from toshiba.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. Well, maybe this model is bad, but my M55 is just about perfect with its build quality. I like the HP DV1000 better in looks, but my M55 is build a lot better, no flexing period.

Glad to see you love it, I love my notebook as well, have had it for four days myself.

having a problem with the notebook, when i set it so the screensaver starts in 5 minutes it doesn't, or when i set the computer to stand-by in 10 minutes, it never does, it has to be done manually.
could anybody tell me what's the problem.

Any chance you could possibly download and run 3D Mark 2005?

I'd like to know how the NVidia Go7300 in the P100 performs, compared to the latest ATI X1400 in the new Acer 5672 (although this is only a 15.4" not a 17" screen).

    Thanks.

Another two questions for P-100 owners:

    1. What is the battery life like in real world usage?

    2. What about heat? Does it run hot / warm / cool etc.?

I was interested in an Acer Aspire 5672 with X1400 graphics (instead of the Go7300), but have read that the 5672 runs quite hot, and battery life is maybe 2.5 hours at best?

The P100 looks like a nice option with the bigger 17" screen, but physically only 30mm wider and a little fatter. But it is more expensive, and I can't find any information on battery life / running temp etc. Plus I'm very confused about Go7300 versus X1400 graphics!

    Confused...

I have an interesting news for all Toshiba Satellite P100 Fans. In Switzerland the P100-109 is now available. With a Core Duo T2500 (2 X 2.0 GHz) and, nVidia GeForce Go 7600 256MB it clearly outperforms even a acer travlemate 8204. The best price is actually 2600 SFR equals 1700 Euro. A good friend of mine owns it is realy impressed by its speed and quality.

    Interesting indeed!

The best model P100 available in Australia / New Zealand is the P100-01R00P which is T2400, very nice TruBrite 1680x1050 screen, 1GB (533 only), 100GB (5400rpm), XP-Pro, but unfortunately only has the same lowly Go7300 of the base 01N00P model. Bummer!

If the local P100 had the much better Go7600, I would have been tempted at the NZ$3999 price point. But with just the Go7300 video on the local P100, in the end I couldn't justify the Toshiba price over an Acer Aspire 5672 with T2300, 1280x800, 1GB, 100GB, X1400 at under NZ$2900.

ie. I couldn't justify spending over $1100 more to get a bigger screen and marginally quicker processor, with an argueably slightly lower spec'd video card (I understand X1400 roughy = Go7400).

    Hmm...

I'm not too sure about this - the 7800 Go performs slightly worse than the ATI X1600 (both 256MB), so I doubt the 7600 Go would come close to the two. However, the CPUs should be about the same speed as they are both 2.0GHz

You are right with pure 3D speed. I read several tests of both cards and their speed is equal. But the GO 7600 has the loer power consumption and with outperform i meant the display, soundsystem, power consumption, keyboard, price! etc.
