I am considering buying the Toshiba P10-610. Does anyone have this unit and what are your opinions on it?

    Cheers!

Well, I don't have this unit, but I have looked at it and also tried it at the stores and I found that it is a bit on the big side. Weighing in at close to 8lbs. Although, I liked the overall features that it provided, WUXGA LCD (make sure you like REALLY small fonts), NVidia 5600 GPU, DVD Burner & 80GB 5400rpm HDD (Stock Config in Canada). Depending what your needs are, this should probably do the trick. But, if you're looking for something to be mobile, has a lot of battery life and runs cool, this isn't the unit. Because it runs off the P4 CPU, it will drain batteries really fast and also produce a lot of heat. You may want to look into the Pentium M based models if you want portability. The Toshiba M30/M35 has a good balance of computing power and battery life. If this unit will be a DTR, than I think it's a good choice.
Just to name a few, her are other brands/models that are similar:

    HP ZX5000
    Compaq R3000
    Averatec 6100 (least expensive)

    Hi Venombite,

    Thanks for the informative reply!
I have been thinking about the weight issue and that may outweigh the other benefits notebook this may have.
I would be using it primarily for photo manipulation and DVD viewing and the speaker and multimedia system seem quite attractive.
I guess I will have to carry one around to see if it will work for me.

    Cheers!

If you're not stuck on the Toshiba brand and getting a P4 CPU, have you ever thought about the Pentium M CPU's and the Acer brand? The Acer Aspire 2012WLMi is a nicely spec'd system that is lighter than the Toshiba. It uses the Pentium M 1.5Ghz CPU. Don't worry about the low Ghz value, PM CPU's are designed to do more per clock cycle therefore it doesn't have to be clocked so high. This will also give you over 3 hours of battery life as well.
