Toshiba Satellite P105-S9337 Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GHz Laptop
2 GB (2x1GB) RAM, 200 GB 4200 RPM SATA Hard Drive, DVD SuperMulti Drive, nVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS 256MB Graphics, 17"

I am thinking of buying this laptop, but can't understand why anyone would combine such a machine with 4200rpm, that's just way to slow.. do you know of any reseller who offers the above notebook with 7200rpm harddrive(s)?

ok I checked on newegg.. two hitachi 7200rpm 100gig harddrives would cost me like 220$.. so I could order the toshiba laptop, open it up and replace them, right? or is it like really hard or would I lose warranty? stupid toshiba.. such a nice notebook and such crappy hdds

by the way, the best price I have found so far is $1769 at amazon.com
does anyone know of an even better price somewhere? or a company that sells it and would build in the 7200rpm hitachi for me?

First off according to Toshiba changing the hardrive will void your warranty. Secondly for $1769 can't you build a dell XPS and get the 7200RPM? Is there a reason you are trying to stay with Toshiba?

I just built (fas an example) a Inspiron 9400 w/
    T7200 C2D 2.0GHz
    17" UXGA (1920 x 1200)
    100GB 7200rpm HD
    DVD±RW
    256MB 7900GS
    Windows XP Pro(My recommendation)
    2GB DDR2 667MHz

for $1842 without and coupons. Thats $1769 + $220 = $1989 - $1842 = $142 cheaper. Also I doubt the Toshiba is giving you the 1920 x 1200 display. I would start hunting for coupons and I think I could get the Dell down to <$1500.
    Just my 2c

hey.. yeah I just got a mail from amazon, confirming what you just said about the warranty.. the dell xps would be sweat (looks much nicer than the inspiron, which i had before), but it IS more expensive than that.. they -start- at 2200 or so... and I would then go for broke and chose the geforce gtx 9750 which will bring me deep into the 3k-waters, but what the heck..better than dealing with toshiba's poor customer service.. thanks for your input, i will post soon with what deal I ended up
