this is a link to the current system I own and below are a few minor tweaks I have made to date P200804
First of all Vista SUCKS so i put windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and i upgraded the RAM iv now got two Kingston 2gb = 4gb - 1gb being dedicated to video but iv noticed a few minor glitches with the lappy lately, when ever i try to run anything or do anything semi big like run a game or a big program it gets choppy, By choppy i mean if I'm watching a video while I'm doing things the video starts to jump and while looking at the performance section in the task manager i see a HUGE spike in the CPU and the RAM doesn't even take a hit.
I've also noticed that i desperately need to upgrade the stock fans in it as both the CPU and Graphics heat sink and fan are rubbish, I also need to know where i can get compatible one to replace the stock anyway back to my original question do i need to replace the CPU or do i need to replace something else and if i need to replace the CPU is it at all worth upgrading while I'm at it? If it is what CPU's are compatible with this motherboard.
If there is anything further you need to know to be able to help me please ask.
Thanks in advance
Ryan

You should be able to put in at best, an X9000, X7900, or an X7800 to replace your T7800. But, we have a dilemna. You mention that your cooling system sucks. Do you mind posting some information to prove this? It could be that it's actually alright, not as bad as you think. I assume you know the basics, da?
Anyway, cooling systems can not be replaced generally, unless you make your own out of pieces of copper or some other metal. It will be much harder than you think to fabricate your own heatsink, as you will have to shape your own parts, and shape your own fan enclosure, etc. And laptop heatsinks and fans, unlike desktops, are not modular, meaning they can not be replaced with any other system. Unless you make your own heatsink, you're not going to be replacing it at all.
Give it a good clean out with a can of compressed air to clean out the accumulated dust if you haven't already. Hopefully, that should help temps decrease.
Back to the CPU - Since the cooling system is supposedly not so great, it may not be able to take the extra heat of an extreme edition processor, as they consume a fair bit more power, and as a result, put out a bit more heat. It may also be that the BIOS or CPU socket may not support the higher TDP of the extreme edition processors. In short, it is not really worth upgrading the CPU, as it is pretty good already. The one in yours is leagues better than mine, and mine runs games and videos fine, without any choppiness or stuttering. Games most likely are choppy because of your videocard. They really don't depend all that much on CPU's. -
sorry what i meant by cooling system is the fans for both the CPU and i think the second one is on the on bored video card, Now when i use software like SpeedFan i can get temps on the CPU ranging from 45C to 99C and that's way to hot for my liking i need to know a place where i can get replacement fans.
Now on the point of proof i cant really figure out a way of proving the statistics without running it flat out in a game and i cant actually run any games atm because of the CPU so its a loose loose now in the way of replacement CPU's i would like the fastest and best option, Oh and my other question was with the current CPU specs with FSB being at 800mhz is it ok to get the X9000 that's at 1066 MHz or do i have no choice to stay at a 800 MHz CPU coz im getting mixed info online on the X9000 iv got info on two different websites one saying that the 2.80 GHz CPU is 1066 MHz and the second says that its a 800 MHz.
As for the fans iv tried cleaning them and so far the only thing that sort of works is propping the lappy up by miles so its gets MAX ventilation and its really annoying i mean who builds a laptop "notebook" lol with fan vents on the bottom i mean really, anyways i just need to know what can be done and what is the most realistically priced upgrades for a nearly 3 year old notebook. ORrrrr if i should just gather it up sell it and get a new one.
PS. your CPU might be worse than mine but looking at the specs, Your on bored video is better than mine in more ways than one its newer and its ever so slightly faster but only slightly. lol

Then in that case, I don't know why it would be stuttering. There are probably some services in the background that are causing it to slow down, or something. Monitor your CPU usage at idle, and see what happens. It could probably help if you use an OS tweaking guide, like this one here:

As for replacing the fans, I'm sorry, it simply can't be done, unless you are REALLY ambitious and want to completely mod the whole cooling system. If you are one of these people, who wants to do a complete teardown and rebuild with custom parts, definitely do your research. A forum member called K-TRON here could help in that sort of area. If your fans support it, run them at maximum speed all the time, otherwise, look into getting a cooling pad. Another solution is to undervolt both your CPU and GPU, that should take temps down a fair bit, particularly if you do it well.
Regarding the X9000, I think it is possible, however, since you have come across multiple specs of difference, I would be wary. In fact, I would recommend you make a topic in the "Hardware Components and Aftermarket Upgrades" on something along the lines of "What CPU can I upgrade this laptop to?" There are people there who are more knowledgeable than me, lol. An X7800 or X7900 should definitely be possible, but again, be wary of upgrading to an extreme edition processor due to the added TDP and heat output, given your cooling system problems. I'd get that sorted out if possible first.
