I currently am trying to fix a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100. I got the laptop and when I received it, it has had some issues. The motherboard was not powering up. I would not lights here and there but barely.

I bought a BRAND NEW motherboard off ebay for $65. I installed the new motherboard, and now I have 2 solid lights, 1 Green light for the power and an amber light for "charging". Unfortunately, the motherboard still does not power on. I am wondering if it is possible, it will only power up once the battery has some kind of a charge? Currently the battery has got to be dead. When I press the power button, the "amber charging light" turns off then briefly goes back on but nothing starts up, no fans, HDD nothing.

Any suggestions as to what could be causing this problem? I checked the DC barrel plug for voltage and it is definitely getting voltage.

Have you tried booting without the battery?

Yes I have. Could it now be the power board?

If you unplugged the CMOS battery you'll get a checksum error the next time you boot. Go into the BIOS setup, set things up the way you want, and save and exit and that should clear it up.

So after replacing the mother board, I thought for sure this laptop was going to work. I had the laptop unplugged all night last night and mostly all day today.

I go to plug the laptop back in and tried to turn it on. But with no luck the laptop would not turn back on. I have a green light for power and an orange light for charging. So i charged the laptop for 2 hours and the orange light went green for a full charge. When i was fully charged, I went to turn the laptop on but it took 3 tries of pressing the power button. The laptop turned on, but it shutdown right at the TOSHIBA screen. Now I cannot turn it back on but I now have a green light for power and the charging light is back to orange.

    Could the battery be dead???
